Barack Obama, first lady Michelle Obama, and their two daughters did not go to church on either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, according to press pool reports. The Obamas are in Kailua, Hawaii for a 17-day Christmas vacation.
Although the Obamas did not go to church for Christmas, President Obama did play golf

A religion started by a criminal. It should appeal to a criminal.
Traditional Christianity certainly has days set aside for Christians to remember important events and people. No, not all of these days are prescribed by the Bible.
Over time, Christians have realized that setting a date like Dec. 25 for an important event is helpful to the church as a whole to remember the event together. Likewise, setting aside days to remember certain people of the faith is helpful in teaching the entire Church about these people. Yesterday was St. Stephen’s Day and today is St. John’s Day, by the way.
American evangelicalism has trashed this tradition but that’s probably better for another thread.
Church attendance is not required by the Bible, but why wouldn’t you go? You get to worship Christ and learn more about Him.
It’s not like it’s Ramadan, or anything like that.
I think he is just an Atheist, but one that is much more sympathetic to Islam than any other religion.
For Catholics, Christmas is a Holy Day of Obligation. You are required to go to Mass on that day.
The bastard loves Islam, but truth be known, he’s an atheist.
No surprise, they were hiding out in Hawaii. The golf course id Obama’s church.
Does "midnight mass" fulfill the requirement?
He spent the day gazing at himself in the mirror.
How embarrassing for you. Amazing, considering all Christendom for centuries has marked it as a Holy Day. I keep forgetting that the West is basically unserious about their devotions, though. Convenience and one’s mood comes first.
Jeez, give the man a break for once, according to my cousin in Secret Servive, he attended the Midnight Basketball Mess at his First Congregational Church of Kwanzaa!
I read that support from the black community has dropped to 95%.
Some people’s thoughts!!
The entire idea of required services is a Catholic only concept. Sola Scriptura and all that. Richard Sept 12 ‘11 at 18:31

Perhaps we ought to first ask, “Why is attendance at services on Christmas and Easter required for Catholics?” Justin Y Sep 12 ‘11 at 18:38
My wife and I were just discussing this yesterday. We were wondering about our current church not having Christmas day service (especially since we come from a Catholic upbringing), and were also wondering if they’d have service on Christmas day this year since it is on Sunday. a_Hardin Sept 12 ‘11 at 18:40
I’m only ask this question because I watched a veggie-tales where they had a sunrise service on Easter with what I guessed was supposed to be a Lutheran congregation. Peter Turner Sept 12 ‘11 at 18:47

I think this question might be “too localized.” I’m not familiar with any protestant churches that don’t observe Easter or Christmas in some major way —often including multiple services on the days up to and including the actual holidays. So any answer about why a specific congregation does not do this, would be pure speculation on my part. Flimsy Sept 12 ‘11 at 19:32

@Flimsy, I’m open to that answer. But I have seen and heard of this and not by means of some jaded Catholic filter. It was just something I thought was strange. Peter Turner Sep 12 ‘11 at 20:08
@Peter I agree with Flimsy. I think it is more cultural. I do see churches in India different. I observed the problem you describe when I was working in US for a period. So it looks like very localized to US or some time to western culture. James Sep 13 ‘11 at 5:08
I attend a protestant church in Australia and our biggest services (in terms of number of people) are Christmas day and Good Friday. However these aren’t sold as “special” services that you are expected to attend, they are just times to celebrate and remember our Savior Greg Dec 23 ‘12 at 8:03
Obama is a “Christian” like Jim Jones was.
so what ..?
He goes, he doesn’t go... who really gives a rip?
It’s all a scam anyway.
Did he bang his head into the floor while facing Mekkah?
Yes but he fooled everyone into thinking it was some kind of dance move. He recited “boom shaka laka” and then said “boom” again as he banged his head into the floor.
