Females in the Marine Corps will not have to meet the physical fitness standard--set to go into effect as of January --of being able to do at least three pull-ups, the Corps quietly announced on social media.
Unlike their female counterparts, male Marines have long been required to do at least 3 pullups.

What the heck??!! Has there ever occurred an infantry battle won by deploying pull ups?
Women have NO business in a combat unit. PERIOD!

Go hang your head in shame for this outburst. Remember your post lives forever.
Any number of exercises might be used in a fitness test, but originally it was developed to be used by all Marines worldwide, including many aboard ship. The 3 mile run was for endurance, more than a 1-2 mile event, something to approach an 18 minute sprint. The pullup is a typical task for getting into the yardarm, or for scaling a wall, or for climbing with rope or for lowering from a ship to a landing craft. The situp could be performed in close quarters and reflected abdominal strength.
Other tests over the years also evolved, such as the PRT or CRT, but the PFT was also used in cutting scores, one of the few events which an individual Marine could work at to improve his chance to advance in rank.
The ability to scale walls, lift ammo or heavy loads to the point of exhaustion, and climb over naval vessels onto others are all keeping within the mission of the Corps. A line officer must have those abilities to remain abreast their personnel. There are plenty of other duties within the Corps which do not require that immediate effort, but they are not combat arms or supporting arms missions.
Still, way more than 2 SD’s outside the bellcurve median.
Very rarely did we encounter Marines unable to pass the min 3 pullup quota. Of the typical 3 event PFT, most who maxed an event were the situps, but many who couldn’t max situps, maxed the pullups. Few max’ed the 3 mile run in 18 minutes or less.
Within the first 4 years or first tour, the PFT may have been a challenge, but after 4-8 years at any station where one could run daily, the 1st class PFT was the common denominator. Those who couldn’t perform first class PFT, simply weren’t staying in shape.
Regarding pullups, many would only turn out 10-17 pullups, with max situp and 20-22 min 3 mile run, without any real dedicated workout routine, other than perhaps running daily.
The older Marines, might not have had the speed, but they could generally run 10-20 miles without much effort, just adequate water.
Marine infantry still need to be able to hump enough ammo and water to keep them alive in a 15 min firefight, with enough stamina and endurance to resupply with lots of upper body strength over another 30 minute period.
Here you go ladies a light SEAL workout.

Not too hard. Before their ‘Hell Week’.
Just about every guy when he is about 30 years old claims 3 things.
First, he played high school football, second he could run the hundred yards in under 10 seconds, and third he could bench press over 200 pounds.
I guess a fourth is he could do 20 pull ups.
If this administration is about to go all-communist they have to learn from the Soviets on that matter, too.
Women in combat roles proved to be a total failure for them in WWII.
"We" female Marines. I served from 1977 to 1998. We did the flexed arm hang, not pullups.
It was my pleasure!
It’s not easier, just different. Many male Marines who scoffed at us couldn’t hang for the minimum time when they tried it.
Like it or not, we are physically different. Legislation doesn’t change that.
I've never run into that.
I'm 65 and can do 10. And I weigh 200 lbs.
Even experts are stupid enough to have become indoctrinated in sex sameness over the last 40 years.
“”To find out just how meaningful a fitness measure the pull-up really is, exercise researchers from the University of Dayton found 17 normal-weight women who could not do a single overhand pull-up. Three days a week for three months, the women focused on exercises that would strengthen the biceps and the latissimus dorsi the large back muscle that is activated during the exercise. They lifted weights and used an incline to practice a modified pull-up, raising themselves up to a bar, over and over, in hopes of strengthening the muscles they would use to perform the real thing. They also focused on aerobic training to lower body fat.
By the end of the training program, the women had increased their upper-body strength by 36 percent and lowered their body fat by 2 percent. But on test day, the researchers were stunned when only 4 of the 17 women succeeded in performing a single pull-up.
We honestly thought we could get everyone to do one, said Paul Vanderburgh, a professor of exercise physiology and associate provost and dean at the University of Dayton, and an author of the study.””
Not to mention fast roping.
I did not make that up, I once saw it somewhere. I did add the 20 pullups.
I have come across it quite a lot, of course not always in that exact way and not always is the person lying but most are.
If you only perform the minimum amount for the three events (pullups, situps, 3 mile run)you will fail the fitness test. Minimums may get you by on a single event if you have an injury like a rotator cuff that won’t affect your run or sit ups.
