A U.S. government contractor kidnapped by al-Qaeda militants in Pakistan in 2011 has recorded a video message calling on the Obama administration to negotiate with his captors, saying he feels “totally abandoned and forgotten.”

I thought the stated US policy was not to negotiate with terrorists - with them having an extortion demand, like this one. Why does he think the USA is going to negotiate?

If I were in his shoes, ordered to make such a video, I’d do it. I would understand, though, that I am probably not going home alive. I would try not to dishonor myself, you can imagine I’d be spending much of my time in prayer, thinking about the big picture, thinking about my family, and observing my captors.
I don’t expect to live, I fully expect to get a knife in my neck or a bullet in the back of my head any time but making a video like this seems harmless enough.
Is that a request for Obamamugabe to negotiate with himself?
