Congress is digging into how foreign diplomats accessed — and reportedly defrauded — federal benefits programs.

According to the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, 25 current and former Russian diplomats and 24 of their spouses allegedly participated in a scheme to illegally obtain Medicaid benefits for prenatal care and related costs by underreporting their income or falsely claiming that their children were citizens of the United States, Royce noted. Over the course of nearly a decade, they milked the system of $1.5 million in benefits. The U.S. Attorney alleges that the staff of Russian diplomatic offices in the U.S. supplied false documentation to New York officials in support of the fraudulent Medicaid claims.

“The unsealing of the U.S. Attorney’s criminal complaint raises a number of issues about the Administration’s options for handling this matter and the interagency coordination during the precursor investigation,” Royce wrote. “In order to better understand this situation, I would appreciate a detailed, staff-level briefing at the earliest opportunity, as well as written answers to the following questions prior to the meeting.”

These questions include how the Obama administration plans to treat the 11 named defendants still in the U.S. “Will you ask the Russian government to waive their immunity so that they can be prosecuted? If not, will the Department declare them persona non grata?”

“How will the Administration treat the 38 named defendants who, according to the U.S. Attorney, no longer reside in the United States? Will you request that they be extradited to stand trial? If not, will the Department impose a U.S. visa ban on them?” Royce continued. “Will the Administration bill the Russian government for the Medicaid benefits its personnel fraudulently used? If not, how will New York State’s Medicaid program be compensated for the loss?”

Sen. Robert Menendez of New Jersey's friendship with Florida's Dr Melgen has yielded fundraisers, campaign contributions and trips on Melgen's private plane. Menendez flatly denied allegations that he traveled on Melgen’s plane to the Dominican Republic for sex with prostitutes.

Though facts remain piecemeal, a fuller portrait of Melgen has emerged....a trail of checks written to politicians, overbilling the US govt, and a web of business interests that apparently fueled his wealth.

In my opinion, obamaphones are the least of our problems. They should continue working on the eligibility and fining providers that don't confirm eligibility and prosecuting fraud. Poor people with phones are more likely to get a job than poor people without phones. Now if we just hadn't off-shored all the jobs.

My wife works full time in a medical service provider’s office. She see’s first hand who is getting free medical aid from the government. Many are able bodied people, who never seem to get off the dole.

I shop in grocery store. I see first hand who is using food stamps (EBT cards). Many can’t speak one English sentence properly. Others are young, able bodied and healthy. Those people should be learning marketable skills and getting jobs. There is a shortage of highly skilled workers right now.

My 25% number is conservative estimate. Actually and morally and justifiably it is much higher.

First of all, original Odessa is a famous Jewish enclave of Ukraine.
Second, 95% of “Russians” residing in “Little Odessa” are Ukrainians who came from Ukraine, many has Jewish roots.

These are Chuckie Schumer's constituents. This scam could mean b-i-g trouble for Chuckie Schumer.---Just before the reform procedural vote ON AMNESTY in the US Senate, Judiciary member Sen Charles Grassley offered a simple amendment--intended to protect Americans from rampant illegal alien fraud.

GRASSLEY'S AMNESTY AMENDMENT: "The secretary (of homeland security) may not grant registered provisional immigrant status to an alien under this section unless the alien fully discloses to the secretary all the names and Social Security account numbers that the alien has ever used to obtain employment in the United States," said Grassley's amendment.

Grassley's amendment would not have prohibited illegal aliens from being converted into legal aliens just because they had used names and Social Security numbers that did not belong to them. It would only have required that the illegal aliens make the names and numbers they used known to DHS before they could be granted the right to legally live in the United States.

Grassley said, "Congress should not thumb its nose at the millions of Americans who are victims of identity theft, often perpetrated by an undocumented person who steals Social Security numbers to get jobs, govt benefits, driver's licenses and more. This amendment will simply require the person applying for RPI status to disclose any previously used Social Security numbers," said Grassley. "It's the first step to helping clean up the mess that's been created for the victim of identity theft. The amendment also authorizes certain federal agencies, upon receipt of this information, to notify individuals who were the victims."

"How are they going to remember all that, and are we going to delay RPI status? "(The) purpose of this bill is to bring people out of the shadows. We all know when they lived in the shadows, they had to forge documents, forge Social Security numbers, et cetera. I just don't see how, when you've lived here 10 years, and you've had many different identities, many different numbers, you're going to remember them all," said Schumer.
