If I ever move to a house with some acreage (not likely at my age) I would love to have a Border Collie.

I have heard they need an exorbitant amount of things to occupy them and are not suited to people that cannot give them tons of activity and play?

He has been a busy boy. Herds everything and makes sure the car makes it into the garage each evening.

A bored Border Collie is going to find ways of entertaining himself or herself, and you're not likely to be pleased with the outcome. Don't get one if you can't spend the time with them and don't have the space for them, they need a “job” to do, they can be very intense. They'll start herding you or other people and nipping is one thing they'll use to herd. They'll herd ducks if they're around.

Well...got my first BC back in maybe 87...She was about a year old...Named her Mattie. She was a classic colored BC...but her ears flopped. Ha!! My..was she a good dog. Used to herd my girls and her friends around the yard. Moved to OK...and had her bred to another classic BC...The first pup she had was totally classic colors...then they started getting more and more white. HA!! Vet told me...that wasn't un-common. In fact she said...some folks like them more white..as they can see them better in the dark while herding up their stock.

Anyway...we kept her first born..Named her Casey. Both great dogs...but never needed too much attention really. They were always content...with what was happening around them.

Had to put Mattie dog down...about 4 years ago...and then Casey a couple years later. Hardest things!!

Have a rescue BC now...and a blue healer. They also don't expect much extra attention...I run them a lot in good weather...but they aren't a problem. IOW's....they aren't that needy IMO.

all you need is a park nearby to run and play frisbee.

BC’s need a “job”, one job they enjoy is learning to be disc doggies
