Anyone who thinks it’s cool to buy a dog instead of rescuing a dog needs to read this.
I don’t mean to be “heartless” especially not on Christmas Day, BUT:
“Right after that, Dad started staying home all the time and worrying and drinking beer and yelling and sleeping too much. Mom went out and found a different job but I guess it isnt a very special one, like the one Dad lost”
Maybe if “Dad” would spent his time working hard at trying to get another job, there would have been a better outcome...
You can buy a lot of dog food for what it costs to drink. Yelling at my wife in front of our 120lb Rott/Lab mix rescue dog, even by me, would not be a good career move.
Rescued Pup
The last day of work for my wife in Texas before we moved from Texas back to Mississippi she adopted two pups from a co-worker who was taking them to the pound. They are mix breed Terriers and litter mates. This is a picture of Semper (male). She told him he better get packed up as we were leaving in the morning. and he packed himself in my travel bag and promptly fell asleep.
This is him before his nap time took him over.
Oh we can't forget about his sister Fi
A Black and White Cutie
We are all living happly in Mississippi this Christmas day
We have a German Shepherd-bloodhound mix, a basset, and a mix-mix. All shelter dogs. All abandoned. And all now part of the family.

I’m having difficulty reading my monitor for some reason.
I would starve before I took my dog to the pound. He’s as much a member of my family as is my wife.
It would never come to that because I would move the Earth to make ends meet. I’ve spent my entire life preparing, part of which means I work like I want to make my employers happy...they always are. I realize sometimes circumstances go beyond that and I got caught there once. My division closed. I was “out on the streets”. I cut my expenses to the bone and spent every waking hour making people want my services. It wasn’t long until I was working again.
The dog? He will eat before me.
It makes me want to go rescue one now though.
The end of the story...
So Santa came and found good homes for all the animals in all of the shelters and they all lived happily ever after. The End.
(O.K....I know this is total pie in the sky, but the story made my heart hurt.)
