A Las Vegas taxi driver has been hailed for his honesty after ensuring that $300,000 in cash found left in his cab was returned to its rightful owner, the Las Vegas Sun reported on Tuesday.
Gamboa picked up the cash-toting man early on Monday at The Cosmopolitan hotel and drove him to the Palms Place, where he received a $5 tip, he told the newspaper.
At Gamboa's next stop, a hotel doorman at the Bellagio discovered the bag in the rear of the cab,.. moved it from the back seat to the front passenger seat...
After peering inside the bag while stopped at a traffic light, Gamboa called his dispatcher to report the find.
After local police helped verify his identity, the man was reunited with his cash. He shook Gamboa's hand, took down his contact information, and said he would reward him at a later time, the newspaper reported.

Maybe the guy just robbed a bank, or casino. Lol.
Reminds me of that Honeymooners episode where Ralph finds a suitcase filled with money.
The episode was called “Funny Money”...
“Ralph finds a suitcase on his bus that contains counterfeit money, only to be sought out by those who printed it.”

The Police didn’t arrest the cash?
Lol, guess the cab driver was smarter than Lloyd, or dumber, hmmm. Still I hope the cabbie gets a great tip.
My devil side is telling me that the genius who left the bag could retrace his steps back to the cab. Almost every cab have cameras in them and the video of him leaving the bag would be traced back to the cab driver so there’s no escape. It’s not like you’ll find cabbie at the penthouse suite of the Bellagio the next day with lots of escorts LOL. Either way, kudos to cabbie..
The cabbie certainly did the right thing — but one has to really wonder about the guy who gets out of the cab, leaving a bag with $300,000 cash!
The cab company tracked him down.
And out of that cash, he didn’t just hand the cabbie a few hundred or even thousand dollars.
How does one ‘forget’ a bag with $300K? When it’s not your money, and you want to get rid of evidence asap. Or, when the money is from a bank robbery and may have been sprayed with ‘stuff’ that could identify the custody trail of that currency.
How fast did the IRS get involved?
They also have GPS now, like here in New York city, the liberal a-hole capital of the world, if you leave something in a cab you can call 311 and tell them what time and at what street you got out at and they have a list of every cab that was there by looking up the GPS records.
I don’t know about Vegas, but if you cash out that much here, the IRS already knows.
It would appear that the owner of the cash was untouchable. He was probably a mobster, politician, or well-connected drug dealer.
Harry Reid?
Could be one of his bagmen associates, though.
My guess is the money probably didn’t belong to the guy or, it was his gambling money for poker and he didn’t wish to dwindle his assets before hand which makes perfect sense. Depending on what he ends up winning will determine the tip, which makes sense.
If it is one bag of many?
