Pope Francis urged anti-austerity protesters who attended his weekly Angelus blessing to use dialogue and not violence to press their demands.
Addressing a group of protesters among the pilgrims gathered Sunday in St. Peter's Square, the pope appealed for `'a constructive contribution, rejecting the temptation for conflict and violence and following always the path of dialogue."
The pope read aloud one of their banners: `'The poor cannot wait." He urged everyone from charities to Italian authorities `'to do everything possible so that every family can have a house" this holiday season.

Hey Pope, I'm growing sick of your stupidity. Give Food and Shelter to all and
who will grow the food and build the shelter?

In a way, turning that thing into a well run shelter would glorify the Lord. But let’s look at home too. Do we have churches that the same could be said about.

Did he claim that Jesus called on Rome to raise taxes on the Samaritans and Jews (Pharisees) to pay for the early (and poor) Christian’s Bread, Fish and Wine?
That would have got them upset too,

Amen! A shelter would be a greater way to reach people than a new sound system or a youth activity center.

I hope he was hinting at private charity, but the terms might be ambiguous here. Governments keep order. They don’t normally endow.

Gotta be some spare rooms at the Vatican. Which might have been the point of the protesters!

It is, and yet it’s not glamorous, and it has messy problems. It needs more love.
To be fair, some churches are shelter centered. I think of Salvation Army. (The no-communion practice for the sake of alcoholics seems odd as Baptists do it just fine without wine, but I’d call that a church with a problem, not a non church. Their members can take communion at other churches.)

Do Italians have an equivalent of the US charitable deduction? That’s one way the Italian authorities could help without falling into the tax and give trap. Just an idea.

I think he said it was not a panacea. But the screed he penned to do so was awfully long.
