Eavesdropping is unacceptable among close allies, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday, ordering an official inquiry into reports that the United States had spied on Israeli leaders, including Netanyahu himself.
It was the first response from Netanyahu after weekend revelations that US and British intelligence services intercepted emails in his office and that of his predecessor Ehud Olmert, and also spied on former defense minister Ehud Barak.
In the close ties between Israel and the United States, there are things that must not be done and that are not acceptable to us, the prime minister said at a Likud faction meeting.

Wonder how many more days?
This is a perfect chess move for Bibi. If the NSA has evidence it is being spied on by Israel, it cannot say so, but yet Israel can go public due to the disclosure. Hehehe.
Yes: I would suppose after this they will stop asking for his release.
That might want to shut up for a while on that one
Sez Jonathan Pollard’s handlers and spymasters.
Get used to it. Everybody spies on everybody. We’re just better at it. Folks are just seeing an opportunity to cripply our spying ‘cause we’re (rightly) worried about the civil rights implications...
May you be correct. Have seen some things recently that make me think otherwise though.
Sitting here staring at the clock on the wall won’t get you the truth, dear lame-stream drivebys. Your boy done got all of you got, probably.
Here’s a clue for you lame-stream drive bys ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPG1n1B0Ydw
Hmmm.
Dunno, but I don’t think so.
I think we are better at getting the intel, but suck at interpreting and acting on it. Whether is this issue is deliberate or a product of bureaucratic inertia and ineptitude is subject to debate.
Also, because of leaks (like “Leaky Leahy”), we have lost access to intel in other countries.
Am going to ask a favor Little Ray. Read my posts of today and tell me what you think. Not looking for praise, and will agree we are good but are we good enough?
I'll agree here because there are still gorelick walls.
I don’t know. I think we are good - no major terror incidents in the US, even though we’re probably rotten with Islamist cells. And that was before the Moslems got a major foothold in the Federal government.
The older I get, the more isolationist I get. I want to bring the troops home and spend the military and intel budgets to manipulate and pay our enemies to kill each other off. So we need to be Damn Good.
Merry Christmas to you and yours, Little Ray.
Israel has no friends in the upscale political classes of the nations.
So, Bibi will not object if we execute Pollard?
Wanting to make myself clear Little Ray. May we be (all America and all Americans) be just as you said ... ____ Good!
Who knew?
They probably do it to us. I am certain every EU member does it to one another.
Countries do not have frends. They have allies.
And Pollard should remain there. Every country spies on others, friend or foe. The US just does it better. Israel should be the last country to complain about spying.
hussein isn’t friends with Israel. Heck, he isn’t friends with the US.
