We already made the mistake of electing someone like that and are still paying for it.
At the risk of drawing fire—why are cuts to veteran COLAs so offensive? We aren’t necessarily talking about people who lost a limb fighting in battle. We are talking about people who joined a volunteer service and spent a number of years providing national defense. For that, they got paid, earned our gratitude, and also are entitled to some type of retirement benefit. But, why is it so offensive to lower the annual increase in that retirement benefit? We do that willy-nilly at the state level, with respect to retired police, fire fighters, and teachers, all of who perform important functions and some of who face a danger similar to what military personnel do. Why the different reaction?
what a wuss . thinks because he ‘works out’ that he is the be all and end all. He is as bad as O as far as I am concerned. This little twerp needs to be put in his place but a real conservative
Thanks for hurting the vets, Ryan, while keeping your benefits and salary. You stink.
Well done toast.
There is more than $20 billion a year in waste in the DOD budget, and more than $20 billion a year in NEEDLESS Congressionally mandated add-ons (to serve local districts) in the DOD budget, and more than $20 billion a year in illegitimate cost-overruns in DOD arms acquisition programs in the DOD budget, but instead of doing something principled when going after the DOD budget to find “savings” Ryan and Murray decided NOT to tackle the real problems in the DOD budget but instead to go after the Veterans’ pensions.
Ryan’s star keeps sinking lower and lower all the time.
Methink I wasted my time defending these pukes. Fu@k'em all.

Remember The Cold War Peace Dividend that Clinton declared in the 90s? They hit the military pretty good even back then. Well, it’s time for another Peace Dividend. It’s time for The War On Poverty Peace Dividend. How long has that war gone on? 50 years now? How many billions of dollars have we spent fighting this war? It’s time for a Peace Dividend for the taxpayers from The War On Poverty. It’s only fair.
Rino Ryan, Top nominee for Rino Dick of the Year.
But how about the rising cost of paying never-married women to have babies? Or the rising cost of paying men who have never held a job and never will? Why impose the cuts on people who have earned their pension, instead of imposing cuts on people who have never earned a dime?
I’d already given up on Ryan when he came out in favor of gay adoptions, and took Zuckerberg cash to record those pro-amnesty radio ads with Rubio. Ryan repulses me to the very core. No way in hell would I ever give him my vote or my support for anything.
I can’t understand why Ryan wants to be the public face of this.
Crap like this is the reason why the Congress has such a low approval rating. Unfortunately, the state controlled “media” has got the buffoons convinced that it’s because they haven’t passed amnesty for the illegal alien invaders.
Unfortunately, Ryan, you started from a larger step. And you did it on the backs of veterans, for which there can be no excuse.
Anyone who thinks it is somehow okayy to reduce the cost of living adjustments for working age military retirees, does not understand who we are talking about. Or if they do, as I said, the are completely wrong-headed and out of touch.
For those suggesting such a travesty, I suggest that they just try the following simple exepriment to help them understand exactly what they are doing.
Experiment for Representatives and Senators:
Each of Senator and Representative who believes working age military retirees should have their cost of living adjustments be cut should volutarily sign up with the US Armny, US Marines, or some other branch of US military service. They should then voluntarily go into harm's way fighting the enemies of this nation, particularly those who would have no qualms in slaughtering you by hacking your head off in front of a live camera.
Then, while so engaged in that fight, step on, or drive over an IED device that literally blows your arms and/or legs off. wSurvive that horrific experience, and then come home to live the rest of your life with those disabilities...in a verteran's administration that looks for every way possible to deny you care and rehabilitation over the long term.
Then have some pencil necked geeks in Washington DC tell them that they somehow "owe" it to the country to give up their cost of living adjustments to...while those same geeks earn $150,000+ dollars a year coming up with such ideas.
Only then will they be qualified to make such a suggestion...but then, if having lived through that, they never would make such a determination in the first place on the backs of those who have already given so much.
because the govt absolutely positively cannot find $6 billion in waste to cut from any other programs ....
Now starting with military is very odd, but if you think about who the pols see everyday, it makes sense. They see the fedgov staffers and workers, not the guys in green.
It is easier to cut people you don't see.
I voted for Ryan. I understand his strategy in this matter. He got rolled by the Democrats. I won’t ever vote again for somebody who was stupid enough to get rolled by the Democrats. And he’s only making it worse. If you get rolled, apologize and shut up. Even Cracker Barrel understands that. He came out and lied to try and cover up getting rolled. He gave the retired Veterans COLA to the Democrats to use for HEADSTART and Education. That was the deal. That’s why it was a “Compromise”. It didn’t have a damn thing to do with putting that money into the Defense budget. It’s already there. He looked good, but he was stupid and got rolled and then lied to us about it. I’ll never vote for someone like that. He could get me back if he would admit it and apologize, but he’ll never do that.
I think vets would take the cuts, with some whining, if it was part of a comprehensive package of cuts. The problem is that this is a comprehensive package of spending with very few cuts.
