House Budget Committee chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) has doubled down on his move to cut pensions for military veterans in a USA Today op-ed published Sunday.
In the op-ed, Ryan opens up by highlighting the CBO estimate that the deal he cut with Senate Budget Committee chairwoman Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) would result in at least $20 billion in deficit reduction. The Bipartisan Budget Act that Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., and I drafted will soon become law, Ryan wrote. We think it's a small step toward fiscal discipline in Washington. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office estimates the bill will reduce the deficit over the next ten years by over $20 billion. And unlike current law, it will provide much-needed relief to our already strained defense budget.
As Breitbart News has reported, Ryans and Murrays budget deal does not reduce the deficit. In fact, the deal raises the deficit by at least $15.5 billion because of a series of gimmicks that Ryan and Murray employed in the accounting of the deal -- namely, double counting of savings like the tactic which was employed in Obamacare, and the failure to include an estimate of the interest on the borrowed money for the first couple of years of increased spending. These are only a few among a series of other misleading statements Ryan has made about the deal.
The rest of Ryans op-ed is devoted to defending his decision to cut $6 billion worth of military pensions. "One part of the bill has become particularly controversial: the reduction in cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) for working-age military retirees, Ryan wrote. The federal government has no greater obligation than to keep the American people safe and we must take care of the

We already made the mistake of electing someone like that and are still paying for it.
RYAN = EPIC FAIL
Just another Republicrat. Any chance of running for pres. he just lost.
Another PhonyCon Wisconsin Liberal PhonyCons were pushing off as Conservative.
Now the PhonyCons are pushing another Wisconsin Liberal...Scott Walker...who pushes Illegal Alien Amnesty as much as Ryan does
How about Paul and his fellow Elitist Eunuchs give up their salaries and perks? My guess is that Paul Ryan doesn’t have the cajones or guts to join our military and fight for his country, ya think? How did we get so many gutless slimes elected to the US Congress and in this Administration? They’re not worthy of licking our troops boots, in my opinion.
He must know he’s toast as a Presidential candidate. Maybe he thinks he can get elected Speaker after Boehner is gone.
Reminds me of john f’n kerry-heinz mentioning to some university students that if you don’t study hard you’ll end up like one of “them” referring to service members. Such disdain. Bizzaro world is the only explanation as to why that asshat is now our secstate. WTH?
Two things: 1) What did they put in Ryan’s water? 2) What in the heck do “they” have on that guy?
Is he just trying to keep his cushy job? He hasn’t been there that long and he already needs to go.
Funny how everyone talks about how Ryan is pushing the cuts in military benefits.
Hello!!!?? Patty Murray is just as responsible!
Democrats set Ryan up to take the fall for this because the Military vote has always swayed to the right.
Sad part is, even conservatives are willing to sacrifice Ryan on the alter for Democrats.

Am thinking it is high time to stop trying to find true conservatives from Northern States.
When was the last good one that ran on a National Platform? (Sarah doesn’t count, she is more West than North)
Another reason NOT to vote Republican ever again!
Is he just trying to keep his cushy job? He hasnt been there that long and he already needs to go.
Or 3) He's always been this way, a Boehner protege, cleverly marketed to the masses during the 2012 race as a "conservative".
Of course the GOP-e powers-that-be inside the beltway are grooming him to be Speaker; after all, "it's his turn".
He is a REAL disappointment - Not Ready for Prime Time.
His selection by Romney shows how screwed up Romney was.
The damage will be VERY hard to undo.
Ryan has committed political suicide with his budget cutting vets benefits. He will rue the day he did it. I don’t believe he ever served in the military.
And their families taken care of to the nth degree.
The stupidity is beyond belief.
The UNIPARTY cares about one thing and one thing only- retaining the status quo.
>> Hello!!!?? Patty Murray is just as responsible!
That’s a non-starter of a meme, FRiend.
You *expect* maltreatment of our troops from a liberal ‘rat.
You expect BETTER from an erstwhile CONSERVATIVE.
You expect Ryan to THWART Patty Murray and her Marxist ideals.
C’mon — how hard would it be for Ryan to get the better of Murray, intellectually? If he had WANTED to, he COULD have. But, no, Ryan now marches to the same drummer as the ‘rats.
Paul Ryan has descended into the sewer from which the ‘rats crawl out to make our lives miserable. He gets NO — ZERO — sympathy or props from me.
He’s a capital-L LOSER.
Thank God Ryan outted himself before we voted for him.
Much like Mitch McConnel and a vast majority of the Republican leadership, Ryan has NEVER held a job outside of government. The fact is that we desperately need a Constitutional Amendment limiting elected officials to 12 years or less of government service in a lifetime. This would go along way in eliminating the lifetime political ruling class.
