The family fighting to keep a brain-dead 13-year-old girl on medical support through Christmas blasted administrators at Children's Hospital Oakland on Thursday evening, saying that hospital officials told them in a private meeting that the girl had to be taken off her ventilator "quickly."
"They said, 'What don't you understand?' She is dead, dead, dead,'" said Omari Sealey, the uncle of Jahi McMath, the Oakland teen who has been kept alive by machines since complications from a tonsil surgery last week in a case that has brought national attention and prayers from social media users around the world. "They just kept referring to her as 'a body.'"
The family's attorney, Christopher Dolan, said he will head to court on Friday morning to seek an injunction to halt any hospital intervention. Hospital officials have not given a timeline to remove the girl from the ventilator, he added

"They keep saying she is 'dead, dead, dead' and I am hoping the courts will say 'no, no, no,'" Dolan said in a Thursday night news conference. "We just saw her; she is a beautiful young lady. She responds to her mother's touch. She is warm."

Jahi had tonsil surgery to help her with sleep apnea, weight gain and other health problems and began bleeding from her nose and mouth and experienced cardiac arrest later that night.

Yeah, Buddy!!!
You are blaming the family for HIPPA laws. Do you actually think this family was responsible for those laws? Isn’t it kind of vile for you to attack this family over something they have no control over?
Usually HIPPA laws are used by medical facilities as a cudgel to beat the family. I have seen nursing home staff scream at an eldercare attorney that they couldn’t talk about the patient that the attorney represented because of HIPPA. Basically, they interpret HIPPA to mean that their patients are their property.
You have my sincere sympathy. I suffer from period flare-ups from diverticulitis and know the colonoscopy/polyp removal very well. I also dealt with sleep apnea for years, getting by on 3-4 hours of sleep, waking up with a raw throat from snoring, and generally walking around like a zombie.
I now control the diverticulitis with colon heath meds and a good high fiber diet. I use a c-pap machine at night and sleep like a baby. Ignore sleep apnea at your own peril
You are extremely naive. In my limited experience, I've seen it happen with my own eyes. I know of two doctors who had hospital privileges taken away when they wouldn't rubber stamp the cover up of gross malpractice. With ACA upon us your attitude is extremely dangerous. It's amazing how much Obama has taken away the fundamental common sense of people like you.
Probably the understatement of the week.
............................. I am listening to the Bill Bennett show without Bill. Some former politico is hosting.Doing a pretty god job.
He wonders if the health-care insurance care companies go broke will the govt. bail them out?
If they do will we have GM all over again?
If the govt. bails out insurance companies who will own the new company, and direct it?
Was all this planned?
Did the regime know insurance companies who are mandated basically out of business when their plans do not match 100% govt. mandates would go bust? And... then big govt. would swoop in as saviors, are they that slick?
I guess we shall see.
Thanks for the ping LucyT and Merry Christams to you and all the great Freepers who post here.
My wife works in hospital administration. She is the one who would “craft the spin” you guys think happens. It doesn’t.
The lawyers swoop in. The medical staff swoops in. There are investigations. Settlements are crafted and the insurance pays off. But the investigation of the staff can be brutal and swift.
Affirmative action involved?!.....ultimate irony if it is....
Yea, God did it wrong but man can fix it...
What a snarky remark!
I suppose you are anti appendectomies, pulling impacted wisdom teeth and the like.
Not blaming anyone for this tragic accident. I’m saying is that the family has not let the hospital tell people what happened. The family if they choose could allow all the information to be released. They have chosen not too.
How is taking her off artificial life support covering it up? You don't think the medical liability wasn't clear the moment they killed her brain?
Exactly. Just like a car that is worth more for its parts than it is as a whole.
Heart, kidneys, liver, lungs, eyes, and more. There's lots of money to be made.
California is a tort reform state that caps non-economic payouts at $250,000. That may be one reason why they're anxious to remove her from life support? In addition to being fruitless, the hospital probably has to pay for it.
Wow ... somebody goofed, really terribly.
High risk patient? Woe ... and girl or family okays surgery. Woe ...
Pet peeve: It’s HIPAA, not HIPPA.
99% of appendicitis can be eliminated by high colonic irrigation. That is good because the appendix is a very necessary organ, saving a culture of vital bacteria through episodes of intestinal distress, so that normal populations can be quickly restored.
Man has yet to get anything right.
Nonsense!
Most tonsillectomies are pure medical misadventure.
(But they do make money)
I knew a man aged 41 who went into the hospital for tonsil surgery and waved good by to his coworkers on Friday telling them that he would see them again in a week. They saw him sooner but it was at his funeral.
