Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) on Sunday defended cuts to military retiree benefits, noting that Congress would change a provision for individuals who were medically retired or received survivors benefits.
In a USA Today op-ed published on Sunday, the Republican budget guru, who spent weeks crafting a two-year bipartisan budget deal with Senate Budget Committee Chairman Patty Murray (D-Wash.), noted that the budget chiefs have agreed to amend the law well before the reform takes effect in December 2015.
Many raised concerns that these reforms would affect the retired pay of service members who are medically retired and those receiving survivors benefits. So Senator Murray and I have agreed to amend the law to exclude them well before the reform takes effect in December 2015, the House Budget Committee chairman wrote.
He explained the rationale behind the joint decision to scale back benefits for military retirees under the age of 62 or reduction in cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) for working-age military retirees - that has become a source of controversy, in recent days.
If (younger retirees) retire before age 62, the annual increase in their retired pay will be 1% less than the inflation rate. In other words, their benefits will grow every year just at a slower rate, Ryan wrote.
The cut is anticipated to save $6 billion over a 10-year period.

I hope Hagel is stricken with cancer. F*** him.
...is anyone actually interested in stopping the American left?
Or just working with them?
Mrs. Ryan is a niece of former Sen. David Boren, D-OK.
So, fairly quickly, Paul Ryan goes from being a wonderful, rock-solid conservative VP pick, to being someone ostracized on here for liberal views, votes and bills.
Amazing the change that can happen. I hope the same doesn’t happen to Ted Cruz. I think the same has happened to Michael Grimm.
“So, fairly quickly, Paul Ryan goes from being a wonderful, rock-solid conservative VP pick”...
Disappointingly, Ryan is clearly a “one note wonder”.
Recent attempts by Republican MC to work with democratic colleagues was mindful of US negotiations with Iran. “Success” in dealing with Iran is nothing short of acceding to their petulant demands. And yes, Cruz (and others such as Mike Lee)will do well to not get out of tune with Conservative ideals.

Waste of bandwidth. They don’t care. Also a historical note. The last Vet encampment in DC over benefits did not end well at all.
Admit it, Ryan, you sold the vets out.
Just for future refrence:
The next time (if there ever is a next time) that a bunch of fellow conservatives put forth the radical idea that a man who would run on a ticket with Romney is not one to either trust or support, listen.
Don’t call them names and make excuses that the other guy is worse. Because as Bhoner/Mcconell and now RYAN have proven with their gay/amnesty/obamacare support...and now screwing our vets, the ‘other’ guy ain’t worse.
PS: less crow to eat as well.
Thank you very much.
...trying to remember that divisional patch...brigade now I guess.
Ryan has turned into just another wuss liberal, cowardly rino. He is totally fubar.
