Ugandan MPs Rush Through Draconian Laws Against Homosexuality [Why "Draconian"?]

Ugandan MPs Rush Through Draconian Laws Against Homosexuality Same-sex couples face life behind bars for touching amid jail threat for not reporting gay people to authorities

David Smith, 20 December 2013

Gay rights activists have reacted angrily to the Ugandan parliament's abrupt decision to pass anti-homosexuality laws that would condemn same-sex couples to life in jail for mere touching, urging president Yoweri Museveni to veto them.

The bill, rushed through by MPs on Friday, also bans the promotion of homosexuality and makes it a crime punishable by prison not to report gay people to the authorities or to conduct a marriage ceremony for same-sex couples. The law was first introduced in 2009, when it advocated the death penalty, but after a worldwide outcry, that was removed from the final version.

"This is victory for Uganda," David Bahati, the MP who proposed the bill, was quoted as saying in media reports. "I am glad the parliament has voted against evil. Because we are a God-fearing nation, we value life in a holistic way. It is because of those values that members of parliament passed this bill regardless of what the outside world thinks."

The bill was reportedly tabled without prior notice. It was opposed by Ugandan prime minister Amama Mbabazi, who argued that not enough MPs were present for a quorum, a challenge that might yet discourage Museveni from signing the bill into law. The threat of a withdrawal of western aid could also play into his decision.

Its time to change the conversation. The Christian view of homosexuality is in fact extremely tolerant. Islam says it is a crime and some countries put offenders to death.

“The Gospel has always been the same. The problem is not with the Gospel but with the vast number of Christians that are afraid to speak it and are “loving” the perverts straight to hell.”

Applause from the amen corner.

“Gee, we now know what hysteric liberals stand for.”

The difference between a liberal and a satanist is that the satanist knows who he’s working for.

Doesn’t failing to report a crime make one an accessory after the fact in this country?

If we criminalized homosexual behavior in this country, it would automatically be a crime not to report it.

Well, their law doesn't say you have to report gay behavior, it says you have to report "gay people" for a lifetime of incarceration.

But yes, if we instituted those laws, then the law in our country would also be correctly labeled "draconian."

Honestly, I have no earthly idea what point you're trying to make.

Indeed, this is what is very wrong with much of the progressive/liberal Christian perspective.

In fact one could make the strong argument that all this Christian “loving” in the form of not just homosexuality, but also of the entire public welfare system is sending people straight to hell.

There is a huge difference in charity/charitable works and works the enable the sinner to REMAIN in their sin. Whether it is the sin of homosexuality, sloth, theft, pride, etc.

Works that allow a person to remain in their sin...are not the works of God.

“Well, their law doesn’t say you have to report gay behavior, it says you have to report “gay people” for a lifetime of incarceration.”

Firstly, the use of the euphemism “gay” as a substitute for something more accurate, like “sodomite” or “homosexual,” constitutes willing cooperation with evil.

Secondly, if there is no sodomy, then how do you tell that someone is a sodomite? No behavior, no crime.

“But yes, if we instituted those laws, then the law in our country would also be correctly labeled “draconian.”

Laws regarding accessories to crimes are already on the books, and carry prison sentences. Are those laws draconian?

Life imprisonment for homosexual acts is quite reasonable, given that the vast majority of sodomites have already boinked a boy in the butt, and the rest want to. (Yeah, yeah, I know, they lie about that, and a lot of people believe them. It’s still a lie.) Anything that limits the access of a homo’s boner to a boy’s butt is a good thing—even execution.

“Honestly, I have no earthly idea what point you’re trying to make.”

Explained again above.

Men committing sodomy with other males is a horrible thing, and should never be deemed acceptable. It wouldn’t even occur to a male to want to do that unless somebody had done it to him first, and right there is where healthy societies try to short-circuit the cycle of abuse, by limiting the access sodomites have to the young.

The problem remains a weak gospel that has forgotten how to patiently teach the truths the perverts need to hear to receive the power from God

Nothing is preventing them from hearing the truth in prison.

The laws were as strict or stricter against homosexual sodomy when this nation began and were in Western Civilization before this country was started.

When certain acts are allowed, a society crumbles as those acts become acceptable. What's happened in this country is inevitable in any that legalizes homosexuality.

So,that was the case for more than 100 years in this nation? Our Founders instituted more severe laws for homosexual sodomy and the nation was a lot better off when sodomy was illegal.

What but disease, mental health problems and child molestation has come from legalizing it?

The libertarian utopia that mean believe in has never existed and never worked anywhere, including in the US.

Update, the president has blocked the law.

Not sure if there is a parliamentary procedure to override his veto.
