The suspension of Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson by the A&E Network after making controversial remarks in GQ magazine regarding homosexuality has been called a business decision. But now Douglas County Sheriff Phil Miller is making a business decision of his own.
Miller announced on his personal Facebook page Friday night that A&E would no longer be welcomed to film or produce any of its programs or series with the help of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office or its facilities. "A&E has suspended Phil Robertson for talking about his conservative Christian beliefs," Miller wrote." None of us are without sin and I am not judging anyone. I am sure A&E made what they believe is a good business decision. Many people who disagree with A&E might choose to remain silent and there was a time when I might have done the same, but no longer. In my mind the punishment is unreasonable.
"I know it will not matter to A&E, but it will make me feel better. A&E has produced more than a half dozen programs with the assistance of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. They will not do any more with my assistance while I am sheriff. It is time for someone other than Hollywood and the news media to stand up for what is right!"

Blends in great with the background and enhances the skin tones! :)
Hey, some people love themselves an autocrat!
My guess that not only is the good Sheriff well within his rights, but I’m thinking that his constituents will back his play, 100%.
I run into this frequently, people see what they want to see and by gollies, if they don't want to see it, they don't see it.
I recall at least two episodes where the police went along with the Robertson's shenigans, one was the "ride along" with a cop and Willie and Sy, the other was when a couple of Robertsons were stuck on the roof of the warehouse. I think it was that kind of "cooperation that's being talked about.
I think the Sheriff volunteers assistance for the program production, and he is totally correct if he’s cutting that off. I guess I could have said that in my first post in this thread....
Yes, the Sheriff could use the office to assist the production in a number of ways, and if wants to cut that off, he can. But, if, say, some local miscreant tries to make off with equipment, the Sheriff cannot look the other way if he’s asked to intervene. That’s what I was talking about.
Sheriffs do that stuff. Fight crime. Trouble is, we’re used to Eric Holder types running the show, and crime-fighting is not a priority at DoJ.
“Miller announced on his personal Facebook page Friday night that A&E would no longer be welcomed to film or produce any of its programs or series with the help of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office or its facilities.”
The key part of Sheriff Miller’s statement would be this: “with the help of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office or its facilities.”
You can bet that the Sheriff nor his department are under no obligation to work with A&E people on anything within his jurisdiction. Would you prefer this not to be the case?
Bingo. I'm preaching this all the time. One big reason that the gay agenda has gotten as far as it has: Conservatives in general and Christians in particular have been too damn polite. We've been avoiding doing what Phil has done: explicitly calling a spade a spade and not being squeamish about describing in detail just what we're talking about when we're talking about homosexual sex. No avoidance of the subject, no euphemisms, no being nicey-nice.
Maybe, if we're lucky, this brouhaha with Phil will be the tipping point where Conservatives will take off the gloves when discussing this issue and expose this perversion for what it is.
I doubt he’ll have any standing in court if he has the authority to do that and exercises it selectively.
Besides, nothing stops the network from using hired hands to film.
I’d prefer an unelected agent of the government not having discretionary, at-will powers over free entities for activities that are not unlawful. Any other opinion indicates a willingness to tolerate or welcome dictatorial authoritarianism, and those supporting this are enemies of liberty.
I just sent Cracker Barrel an email via their web page. Told them my family stands with Phil, and we will no longer dine in their restaurant.
The queers don’t like it when someone openly describes the very act that makes them queer. Phil described it in anatomically correct terms and they went berserk saying he is vile. I’d say that they are just calling themselves vile and deep down they know it.
I input my zip code and it said that military history is not available on cablevision. I do get the military channel.
Assisting with the film crew is totally voluntary. The crew can stand on their heads and scream at him but they can’t legally make him volunteer. And, they don’t have to thank him in the credits at the end of the episode, either.
I haven’t watched the show because that kind of TV bores me to tears, so I don’t know what help he performs for the show. Maybe nothing, in which case this is an empty threat.
My original point is, he cannot instruct his deputies to permit crimes to be committed against the crew or cast of the show. Since he is a sworn peace officer, they are under his protection and he does not have the option of refusing them standard criminal enforcement.
He does have the opportunity to bust them for having marijuana seeds and the like, IE be VERY particular that they follow every law and regulation of the county. To. The. Letter. He could make it uncomfortable for them, and that’s what I think he’s getting at here.
On the other hand, where is it in the best interest of the taxpayers of the county to be having their Sheriff’s Department distracted from their primary duty and function of public safety just to accommodate an entertainment entity in their pursuit of profit?
I think that it’s high time for our government agencies to focus on their primary functions as opposed to facilitating those who are not acting in the best interests of our society, but rather their own interests.
Sheriffs are, by and large (I’m sure there’s an exception somewhere), elected. If the citizens don’t like what he’s doing, they can sack him next election. I’d bet money he’s not going against his citizens, but is actually reacting to pressure from them.
Good for the sheriff!
I did too. Cracker Barrel committed an unforced error in pulling Duck Commander merchandise with Phil’s likeness.
I'm as guilty of that as anybody here.
...”Actually, the Daily Mail said that an A&E representative was present when Phil had his interview with GQ and could have had the statements in question removed but didn’t.
This is beginning to sound like Phil was set up by A&E. For what purpose, I don’t know”...
I record THE FIVE from FOXNEWS each day and was just watching the recording from yesterday. Dana Perino said A&E knew about Phil’s remarks for three months and did nothing.
