Assisting with the film crew is totally voluntary. The crew can stand on their heads and scream at him but they can’t legally make him volunteer. And, they don’t have to thank him in the credits at the end of the episode, either.

I haven’t watched the show because that kind of TV bores me to tears, so I don’t know what help he performs for the show. Maybe nothing, in which case this is an empty threat.

My original point is, he cannot instruct his deputies to permit crimes to be committed against the crew or cast of the show. Since he is a sworn peace officer, they are under his protection and he does not have the option of refusing them standard criminal enforcement.

He does have the opportunity to bust them for having marijuana seeds and the like, IE be VERY particular that they follow every law and regulation of the county. To. The. Letter. He could make it uncomfortable for them, and that’s what I think he’s getting at here.
