McDonald's (MCD -0.82%) has 10 million pounds of Mighty Wings it needs to sell soon.
The wings, which represent 20% of the chicken wings produced for a promotion, are in frozen storage, writes Julie Jargon at The Wall Street Journal.
McDonald's was "unable to sell enough," according to Jargon.
Earlier this year, CEO Don Thompson said that the chicken wings aren't the smash success it had hoped for.

I don’t go to McD for chicken, I don’t go to KFC for burgers. Truthfully, we go to 5 Guys or Square 1 for burgers and Chik Fil A or PDQ for chicken.

I have to be able to eat and drive. That could be the problem.

I recommend they just wing it, this time.

Overpriced and gross tasting. I could pay the same and get excellent wings from Hooters while viewing the breasts.

It’s been my experience that breasts NEVER go on sale.

I tried them. Once was enough. Too much red pepper.

I tried them tonight. Not worth $3. Can’t believe they ever charged $5 for them.
It’s not 5 wings. It’s 5 pieces of wings. The wings aren’t that meaty. The breading is heavy and over spiced.

Captain D’s actually has excellent tasting chicken strips. But I agree with you in general. Don’t go to a place and order what they don’t specialize in and expect it to be any good.
