State Sen. Mark D. Obenshain(R) will concede the race for Virginia attorney general to Democrat Mark R. Herring on Wednesday, according to two people familiar with the decision.
Obenshain’s announcement will put an end to a drawn-out contest that, on election night, was the closest statewide election in history. Obenshain campaign spokesman Paul Logan did not immediately respond to a call seeking comment Wednesday.
Herring had significantly widened his slim lead over Obenshain in a statewide recount that began Monday and was scheduled to finish on Wednesday.

Close races always goes to the ‘Rat. Wasn’t Obershain leading after election night?
Surprise, surprise....the Democrat “significantly” lengthened his lead in the recount. Funny how it is ALWAYS the Democrat who wins these “long, drawn-out” recounts. The law of averages ought to have the Republican win once in a while.
Shame on you, VA, for turning your state over to the Obama cult.
Sorry to hear this. But, maybe VA deserves it. Talking to my daughter (who lives there) about this election, she did not have a clear understanding about the issues, and she’s a very smart woman. That means the candidates and the press did not do their jobs.

And I’ll be the vast majority of the ballots that created that “lead” still had wet ink.

Well the biggest issue I see is you got a R Gov and a R Sec of Commonwealth.
“Our” people need to do their jobs.
And this was pretty much the case in all the toss-up states in 2012 too.
There was a gushing piece on Hillary the other day in USAToday praising how the Clintons put McAwful “over the top” with their campaign operatives.
They had that right.

Well,so much for fighting voter fraud in the next election.
It’s not the same state I grew up in. Like the Cold War Soviet defectors, I escaped to freedom in the West. Tell your daughter to do likewise. No reason to remain in a state where everything is controlled by carpetbaggers from New York and Maryland, residing in just three Northern counties: Fairfax, Loudon, and Arlington.
They did their jobs. They made sure the conservatives didn't win.
Republicans always throw in the towel and surrender to the communists.
It actually makes sense when you think about it. The "tough" ballots -- where the intent of the voter may be clear, but which tend to screw up machines (partially filled-in ovals, for example, or something else depending on the technology used in your state) are generally the fault of less educated, downscale, low-information voters. Who do those folks tend to vote for? Democrats. So it makes sense that in recounts, the Dems will generally pick up votes from rejected, challenged or provisional ballots.
Not to suggest there isn't ALSO hanky-panky going on, just saying that the law of averages is misleading if voter bases are different.
Shut out in VA, unfortunately. The government shutdown really soured it for Cuccinelli et al, but it was still the right thing to do.
The final count on election night was Herring up by about 150 votes. After the recount, both Obershain and Herring increased their vote totals, but Herring increased more and is now up by more than 600 votes. I have read that the difference was votes which were marked on the paper ballots but not read by optical scanners (mostly people who used a check mark rather than filling in the circle.)
