New Obama White House advisor John Podesta told Politico that Republicans are akin to the mass suicide cult in Jonestown, and that President Obama therefore needed more power. “They need to focus on executive action given that they are facing a second term against a cult worthy of Jonestown in charge of one of the houses of Congress,” Podesta said. Jonestown was a community formed in Guyana by cult leader Jim Jones. 909 Temple members died in Jonestown, all but two poisoning themselves.
Rory Cooper, communications director for House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, ripped Podesta’s comments, pointing out that innocent people were murdered in Jonestown, including Rep. Leo Ryan (D-CA). Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) was shot five times. Cooper said, “This type of appalling and inflammatory rhetoric is a very troubling sign of how this White House plans to govern over the next three years."
Podesta joined the White House after spending years at the Obama- and Clinton-linked Center for American Progress. He was also a member of the Clinton White House top staff.
Jim Jones, the cult master of Jonestown, was a very big supporter of California Democrats. He used his followers to canvas for state house Democrats and the Democrats solicited and welcomed his support. Jones was a Marxist leftist and so were the Democrats that he supported.

I’ll bet you didn’t know (and the media would never tell you) that the Jim Jones/People’s Temple mass suicide in Guyana was a Marxist/Lenninst revolutionary act.

In 1976 the Peoples Temple changed a San Francisco political juggernaut which was secretly harboring designs of world communist revolution to a paranoid North Korean-style enclave in Jonestown in 1978. There, they negotiated with the Soviet Union, North Korea and others for a possible exodus. A Soviet delegation visited Jonestown, showering it with praise.
Jones was the darling du jour of all the democrats in california from Jerry Brown on down to George Moscone, mayor of San Francicso.
Funny, but it’s always the democrats who invoke the concept of violence in political discourse, and are the ones who actually do the killing as well.
Podesta doesn’t know his own party’s history.
