Even with the proliferation of digital cameras providing endless streams of seemingly irrefutable video evidence, there are still many sides of any given story that go unknown. And that is most likely what's going on with this video. What we do know is that YouTube user JokRKidd has a neighbor that really doesn't like him, and that he lives in a city with some questionable law enforcement. How questionable you ask? More questionable than the laws that used to make it illegal to park a pickup truck in the driveway of a private residence at night in Coral Gables, FL.
In Garden City, NY, there is apparently a village ordinance aimed at preventing people from washing their cars (and furniture) in public places. That doesn't sound terribly absurd, but what what takes things up a notch is these officers' judgement their reading of the code about "public places" also includes washing vehicles on private property in public view.
In this video, a pair of police officers show up as two men are about to wash a Volkswagen Golf in a private driveway, but instead of a ticket, they get a free lesson in local laws. While the interpretation of the law especially in regards to what is defined as a "public place" is questionable at best, we're fairly certain that there's more going on here than a car wash and an angry neighbor

Agents of the government again...
This is becoming very disturbing..
Agree entirely.
Good guy crappy task.
I am not familiar with the case law but seems to me were this to include washing things on your property, publicly, the ordinance would say exactly that i.e. no washing in public of your property or person.
One could make the case perhaps the area between the city street and your property over which there is an easement for utilities and such could be a quasi public place. That is a weak argument though.
To me, the ordinance is not supportable as too vague or beyond the scope of what can be regulated on your property.
That’s right...It’s not the government employees fault as they looked for other violations...
Would you work for a corrupt business, who routinely invaded the privacy and private property of others?
Are they forced to work for controlling corrupt government?
I had a cop try to give me a ticket for turning left on red. He had to call in to verify that if a one way turns on to another one way that you treat itt like a right turn on red. Stop and yield.
Actually the cop didn’t seem like a bad guy to me.
I got kind of the same impression. I thought the officer was polite. These are dumb laws but police are obligated to respond. Some communities where I live don't even allow the parking of commercial vehicles such as vans and pick up trucks on public streets in residential areas or even in driveways or yards on private property where they are visible from the street. Where I live you can't park an unregistered or improperly registered vehicle on your own property if it's visible from the street. I don't agree with it but it is the laws that need to be changed instead of faulting the cops but obviously it's the people in these communities that choose to enact these stupid laws. These kids had a little bit of an attitude also. The car also had improper plates on it. I wouldn't be surprised if they were driving the car on the street.
Option one- to many people were holding car washes for charity that annoyed some petty office holder.
Option two- Some petty office holder OWNS the local car wash chain
Option three - both of the above.
No?
Why?
Gezzzz...
Not why....
Is this not correct?
That’s New York. No surprise that the liberals hate private property and are doing everything they can to destroy it.
Every year they make more and more laws to prevent people from using their private property they way they want it. The end goal is complete confiscation of private property.
I would rather a good man work for a corrupt system than have them all quit and be replaced by those who believe in the system as it is.
"That's what you say"
When they told the cop “This is private property” the cop stated:
“That’s what you say”
When they told the cop “This is private property” the cop stated:
“That’s what you say”
Pay back is sweet sometimes ;)
So he isn’t one of the good guys is all.
