Morton's The Steakhouse, a high-end restaurant chain, is responding after a firestorm of complaints on social media about how it treated a cancer patient dining at its Nashville location over the weekend.
A man undergoing chemotherapy treatments says he was asked to take off his hat because it violated the restaurant's dress code.
Robert Chambers says he put on a beanie to keep him warm --combating the side effects of his chemotherapy treatments. Chambers says a waitress then told him to take off the hat because it was against dress code.
After explaining that Chambers had cancer, a manager came over and asked to see a doctor's note before he could put the hat back on.

Morton's eventually DID issue an apology, by the way.
What if he had been a Jew?
I even sleep with my beanie these days. My newly-bald head gets cold! I think I look kinda cool, though.
The Facebook mafia strikes again!
Bunch of reactionary self-reightious morons that get off on never thinking before attacking.
My guess is the suits are Morton were horrified by the actions of this (soon to be ex) manager. Asking for a doctors’ note? Really? My experience with this restaurant, and I’ve eaten at the one in downtown Nashville, is that it is fabulously well run.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the manager is fired .and I’m sure he/she was disciplined. That 2K the company donated to St. Judes may even come out of that persons pay.
I side with the restaurants rights to have rules, as a private business, and frankly, with so much dressing down now everywhere, it is nice to see a restaurant holding to standards. I don’t think that’s the issue here though.
Rules are meant to be applied by thinking adults with some concept of proportionality. The manager at this kind of place is not some 22 year old fry cook from McDonalds, or some dumb ass bureaucrat in a govt cubicle.
The way this manager acted was unacceptable ..altho within the property rights of the establishment for sure.
Let’s see them tell a muslimette she can’t wear her head scarf.
The vast majority of that crowd never have or never will set foot in a Morton’s anyway.
Hey, at least he wasn’t smoking.
All of this about a hat? Lordy.
or a Shiek his turban.
That’s just Sikh...
What gets me is that they had to be asked to leave. After that treatment, I would have gotten up and walked out, before the huffy manager had a chance to ask.
Rules, or no, it is obvious that the manager didn’t want their business, so why argue about it?
More to it than “just a hat” -
I would not even consider going to one of these places. Any business that thinks they are so valuable that it makes since to treat their customers as children I stay away from. It’s bad enough we have a government with that attitude.
If he was observant enough to be wearing a skull cap all the time, he wouldn’t be in Morton’s, unless the place was certified Kosher.
I find the concept of a “high-end” chain amusing.
By definition, chains are strictly working-class.
There’s something called discretion. The manager should have used it. Do you really think the ‘dress code’ needs to specifically spell out an exemption for a cancer patient? Or, maybe, should be employees be reasonable and use their heads? Common sense is lost nowadays.
You’ve never been to a Mortons obviously
It ain’t Olive Garden .lemme assure you.
