Senator John McCain on Sunday told thousands of Ukrainian protesters camped on Kiev's main square that Ukraine's destiny lay in Europe and that it would make Europe better.
"Ukraine will make Europe better and Europe will make Ukraine better," he said to crowds protesting against President Viktor Yanukovich's U-turn in trade policy away from Europe towards Russia.
"We are here to support your just cause, the sovereign right of Ukraine to determine its own destiny freely and independently. And the destiny you seek lies in Europe," said McCain, a leading Republican voice on US foreign policy.
McCain is in Ukraine with a Connecticut Democrat, Senator Chris Murphy.
Speaking to CNN on Sunday, McCain said: What we're trying to do is try to bring about a peaceful transition here, that would stop the violence and give the Ukrainian people what they unfortunately have not had, with different revolutions that have taken place a real society. This is a grassroots revolution here it's been peaceful except when the government tried to crack down on them, and the government hasn't tried that since.

I’m convinced we would have had WWIII if McCain was President.
Most Germans and Austrians were more then happy with the Third Reich until it came down around their heads. Even then, many still longed for it after it disappeared.
The first thing Russia should do, is build up better trade between itself and the E. U. It’s citizens probably need less salary, and could compete in a wholesome way.
Then they should let the Ukrainians trade as they please, and win their business.
Russia confounds me, in that they seem to think it’s going to be beneficial to cozy up to China while dissing the West. If China ever gets the upper hand against the West, Russia will be it’s first steak dinner in celebration.
How much trouble does this communist-brainwashed idiot think it will take to take us down?
“We are here to support your just cause...
Now gather round while I take a selfie.”
Right. And if you read this thread, one would surmise that Freepers would advise Austria to choose the Third Reich.
I visualize a big hook catching him around the neck and yanking his pathetic butt offstage. It is WAY past time.
“MacLame and Gramesty call for Obama to send in US military advisors and launch missile strikes on Ukraine in support of rebels or somebody.”
Where are McCain’s keepers? He needs to stay home and mind his own business.
What was it that Churchill said about Russia? No matter. It’s easiest to think of Russia as having a geopolitical case of penis envy. It has never gotten over the fact that the Soviet Union dissolved (for the most part).
Ted Cruz is the only one that comes to mind.
The Russkies are messing in the internal affairs of the Ukraine. Ukraine separate from the Russians is better for their people.
Look at McCain’s eyes in any photo taken in the last 10 years. You get the feeling that someone else is driving.
I agree with your analysis of European socialist model Christian1. It is analogous to the liberal fascism which is on the move in the United States, despite protestations to the contrary from neocon RINOs like McCain and his ilk.
“Even then, many still longed for it after it disappeared.”
And they should have all been burned alive.
So the next question is: what do you think of the Russian socialist model, and do you approve of it?
These mass protests are fun, but there remains a question. If they are the clear majority, why don’t they win another election and do what they please?
A loud noisy crowd is not a majority.
Right... Remember Neda?

So much for the Tea Party, then.
Why can’t Ukraine develop its own political model without external interference?
As usual, your liberal bias is showing.
