I am most certainly NOT in favor of amnesty and will tell anyone and everyone that, including the Speaker and my Rep and anyone else who might listen or not. If they cave on that, it will be a betrayal indeed; I mean, I will personally view it as a betrayal of all my immigrant ancestors who came here legally. As well as a betrayal of logical policy, for after all, even MY emotions do not dictate sound policy. HA!
The Speaker has some say over what comes to the floor. Are you saying that the majority of Republicans in the House will vote for amnesty? If so we have a far bigger problem than the Speaker. : (
Now more reason than ever to provide backbone to our reps and Speaker.

BIG business is not the backbone of America, small business and small holders are. AND we conservatives need to vote for those small business and small farmers with every dollar we spend! Conservative politics cannot overcome what people vote for with their own dollars. : (

Why not just replace him? He could play more golf. How about that gal from Tennessee as our Speaker? How about Trey Gowdy (unless he's on the amnesty payroll)…why is the highest praise "He's not Pelosi." Which is worse, Pelosi or a speaker that strives to satisfy Pelosi?

They are better than Pelosi and Ried. By a h*** of a long shot. Pelosi and Ried gave us 0 care forced down our throats. At least Boehner still calls for repeal, and the House has voted numerous times to derail the obscenity.

Hey isn’t that the American Way? AND he remembers his roots and hard way up the ladder, even gets sentimental about it.
My dad and his siblings (along with brothers-in-law) went through as bad or worse - even putting aside military service - and while they weren't always paragons of virtue, they would all have stopped short of voting to steal other peoples' money or negotiate away their rights. They may all have been flyover-country failures by DC standards, but at least they weren't mendacious beltway elitists (born or made).
Based on his increasingly problematic behavior, I maintain that John Boehner long ago decided that being a member in good standing of the GOP wing of the Corrupt Bastards' Club was his ticket to never going back to the wrong side of the tracks; and rather than growing in character, he has simply increased his standing with those who can keep him living in the style which with he has become accustomed.
Is he the worst guy in the world? Nah. He has become, however, too much of an enabler of the worst this country does have to offer.

Hold him accountable, yes (via policy, not personal attacks). Vote him out, if the votes are there and the next guy is better. Fine with me.

I cannot speak to unknown ill will or bad motives on his part. I will not engage in ad hominem attacks.
He is better than Pelosi, by a huge factor. Morality, policy, decorum even.
I have nothing against him being replaced by a more conservative and more personally noble Speaker.
Just don’t destroy the guy with the tactics of the Left.

Thanks for the note. In context, it appears I am referring to Wash DC, but when I wrote this, I wanted to use “city” instead of Wash DC to get readers thinking in terms of NYC, Chicago, Seattle, and other cities that tend to dominate the information control in their state and the political influence. It isn’t every city or the entirety of every city but that part of each city that controls the information flow. That went too far beyond the main issue, though, so I did not elaborate.

I thought it was Obama’s doing, through his refusal to work within the rules of three branches, and it was spun by the media, while the dufuses in the party accepted the blame and are now running like rats to people like Patty Murray.

I agree that he needs encouragement. But Boehner also has to realize that people are expecting more of him, and that he gains nothing by insulting and doing a victory dance over the “defeated” conservative wing. It’s hard to support somebody like that.
