...Expert Warns Southern California Isnt Ready For Major Quake
A leading earthquake expert has issued a dire warning to Californians about the expected impact of a major disruption to the San Andreas fault line.
The title of Dr. Lucy Jones lecture this week to the American Geophysical Union in San Francisco was Imagine America without Los Angeles.
As KCAL9′s Dave Bryan reports, Jones, a Science Advisor for Risk Reduction at the U.S. Geological Survey, says when the Big One hits Southern California, the damage could be much greater, and could last much longer, than most of us ever imagined

dont’ get yer hopes up. we’ve been subjected to these predictions for at least the past 50 years...
I hope some politicians are visiting when this happens.
Nooooo Not NY, Boston, and DC. I have dear family members at all those locations. You can have Chicago and Calipornia.
Ok. Thanks for the heads up ;)
OK, change on that. I also love my nephew and his family in San Diego.
Never seen that. I have seen Mexican Lakers fans running amok.
Would the destruction of LA be a net gain or net loss for the US?
We have aborted more people by a factor of 20 fold than would be lost in such a massive disaster. We have done so while a major percent of elites in government, industry and academia have not only cheered but have worked fiercely to make sure as many women as possible who wanted to abort their children could abort them.
And there is ZERO care or concern on the part of these people for the economic implications to national earnings or what contribution these missing millions could have made to humanity and human progress. Worse, the more that government intrudes in everyday life, and the more people that government seduces into a life of dependency, the more that a citizen costs society rather than contributes to society.
Now I am to worry about the loss of a predominantly liberal city? What have liberals given humanity that is positive? Even when they produce art or entertainment, it is often to advance liberalism in overt and subtle ways.
All the yucking yahoos on this thread should enjoy this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xioHswbahPc
Come to LA after Mexico wins a world cup game. In some parts you would think you were in Mexico.
You’re right. Not only that but we all would have to pay to rebuild this city. New Orleans had to be rebuilt regardless of whether the former inhabitants were willing to do any of the work for premium wages, regardless of whether it makes sense to rebuild a city under sea level by the ocean, and regardless whether we have any control over whether it happens again. Now if it was Nashville being destroyed, you can be sure no federal tax money would be wasted rebuilding.
Solves a lot of illegal immigration problems.
I’ve seen LA, and believe me, it is no great shakes. They roll up the streets at 1800 (6 PM for non-military types), as people head for the hills.
GO DODGERS!!!!!
If they can toss in San Francisco, Boston, New York, and Chicago, we have a deal!!!!
The idea of SanFranNan's 12th CD being shaked and baked causes me to have this tingle you know where! The idea of the the SF politicos begging for assistance from the US Military after their incessant deprecation of the same would warm the cockles of my heart. I would hope that that beautiful Golden Gate Bridge would survive but I'd sacrifice it for the above!
I like to imagine the US without California period. :-)
No problem with that here.
Actually I was hoping for complete annihilation so that SF could be one with Sodom and Gomorrah.
Well, we are talking about a future event so don't lose all hope, yet honesty compels me to remind you that liberals are like cockroaches, extremely difficult to eradicate completely.
