Google execs got discount on jet fuel, says NASA
By Mark Maremont
Top Google Inc. executives saved millions of dollars by flying their private jet fleet on discounted fuel purchased from the federal government that they werent entitled to buy, according to a new inspector general review released Wednesday.
The report, by the inspector general of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, said the Google executives only were authorized to buy the discounted fuel for government business, but instead for six years also were allowed to purchase it for private flights. The inspector general blamed the situation on an internal government misunderstanding rather than intentional misconduct.
The report said the arrangement didnt result in a loss to the government, but said a company operating the jets for the Google executives nevertheless received a monetary benefit to which it was not entitled, and the arrangement engendered a sense of unfairness and a perception of favoritism.
The report pegged the unwarranted fuel discount between $3.3 million and $5.3 million.

We all know how the prez rolls. Fortunately for us we know its the very thingthat will be his own undoing. You can’t fight the laws of nature, God, or man and win for long. Newton’s for every action there will be an equal and opposing action axciom comes to mind so it will be brutal.
Search the Database: Google Execs Private Jet Adventures
By Mark Maremont and Tom McGinty
Top Google executives seem to have a penchant for travel on their private jet fleet to exotic locales in the Pacific Ocean, such as Tahiti, Palau, Fiji and Kiritimati, also known as Christmas Island, according to Federal Aviation Administration records.
The Google executives travel has come under scrutiny recently, after the U.S. Defense Department ended an unusual arrangement that allowed their private jets to fly using sharply discounted fuel purchased from the Pentagon, according to regulatory filings.
Flight records show that a Boeing 767 owned by Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin took on 15,306 gallons of Pentagon fuel at $3.57 a gallon in August 2012, just before that plane took off on a 10 ½ hour flight for Viti Levu, part of Fiji. The local Fiji press reported that the billionaire tech executives, along with relatives and friends, were vacationing aboard a large yacht.
Compared to the $3.57 the Google guys were paying, many corporate jet owners shelled out more than $4.75 a gallon for fuel around that time, according to data from the Corporate Aircraft Association. The 767 also flew to the Pacific nation of Tonga during this period, the FAA records show.
The fleet of seven jets and two helicopters, including planes owned by Messrs. Page and Brin along with Google Chairman Eric Schmidt, obtained cut-price Pentagon fuel for six years as part of an arrangement to base the planes at Moffett Federal Airfield, a NASA base located just a few miles from Google headquarters in Mountain View, Calif.
Heres a map laying out the distances involved: Googles HQ is on the left, Moffett Federal Airfield to its right, and then a little further away, the San Jose International Airport.
They’re doing lots of things for the federal government under the table.
They raised millions for Obama wihth fundraisers in their homes.
2007
wow this is one time when it really is “Bush’s fault”
True but according to the story this was a Bush era deal - 2007
So which private company was forced to sell Jet Fuel below market value as Google pretended to be buying it for governmental business?
But, but, I thought that the most open and transparent administration was supposed to end all of the Bush programs?
“Since early 2009, the Google executives firm has purchased 2.3 million gallons of Pentagon jet fuel, at prices generally more than $1.00 per gallon lower than commercial rates.
Two of the Google executives Gulfstream V jets landed a total of eight times at Kiritimati over this past Thanksgiving and New Years periods, along with landings in Hawaii, the records show. One of the jets returned to Kiritimati in February.
Separately, Consumer Watchdog, a consumer nonprofit group based in Santa Monica, Calif., called for a federal legal probe, claiming the Google executives company bought fuel to which it wasnt entitled under the agreement with the Defense Department.
Still not a surprise.
Government is government. It’s not like Republicans ever get rid of these things, many add to them.
They all start looking alike.
That’s why they put the “D” or “R” after their names. Usually the biggest difference (OK, which group of crooks and special interests bought ‘em, that can vary sometimes too I grant).
You should see how the trucking industry is ripping off fuel from the taxpayer. Deliveries to gov’t installations means a free fillup. Some companies have built fuel storage facilities close to these installations to off load excess fuel taken on during the deliveries. Large aux tanks on the trucks make this possible.
And the fuel is free, not discounted like google gas.
Well, maybe Google is actually an un-acknowledged agency of the Federal Government. Perhaps a division of the national “ security” state. Keeping us safe you know.
Wait a minute while I Google that....
Wonder why their stock price is to high? They are “in bed” with this administration.
