GOP senators have aggressively tried to keep their conservative base at bay to ensure theres virtually no space on their right for a primary foe to emerge.
That didnt work so well.
Republican primary challengers are lining up to take on sitting senators next year in eight of the 12 races involving sitting GOP senators, gunning for party leaders like Mitch McConnell in Kentucky, veterans like Thad Cochran in Mississippi and Pat Roberts in Kansas and deal-makers like Lindsey Graham in South Carolina. Texas Sen. John Cornyn became the latest target this week, when a fiercely conservative congressman, Steve Stockman, suddenly announced plans to challenge the Senates second-ranking Republican in next Marchs primary.
I think its pretty thin gruel, Cornyn said of Stockmans case for his candidacy: that the senator didnt fight hard enough to defund Obamacare.

But the WaPo this morning has a lead article saying that the TEA Party wave has crested and is receding. And the folks leaving comments on the story are quite in agreement.
Who to believe?
Tea Party candidates will win primaries as long as they are the right candidates. Lessoned learned from 2012.
I think that is the real issue: who are those “right” candidates?
If the Washington Post says it you can believe it came directly from the Democrat national Committee.
I can assure you that the Tea party is lurking in the background and that the Republicans better wake the F up and start taking notice, or they will be finding themselves new jobs.
Typical, expected reply from RINO Cornpone Cornyn.
Guess what? It's NOT thin gruel...it's just one of the MANY reasons we Texans are sick and tired of John Cornyn, career politician. He only veers to the right at campaign time. He's slung mud at fellow senator Ted Cruz. He's well past his welcome.
Let the second American Revolution begin
You're falling for the negative propaganda, and going into doubt, which is exactly what the state-run leftmedia wants you to do.
They're trying to convince you that the war is lost before the battle's even begun. What they're really hoping, is that you'll buy into their false narrative, then parrot it all over the right wing blogosphere to demoralize your friends and comrades.
Don't do it.
No matter how 2014 turns out, the Tea Party is not going away. The average Tea Partier is a highly intelligent, high information citizen. Lessons learned in 2010 & 2012 will be applied to 2014. Lessons learned in 2014 will be applied to 2016.
To those that say we're irrelevant, look at how hard right Lindsey Graham and John Cornyn have turned in the last six months, trying to follow the same script that Orrin Hatch successfully used to avoid a primary.
For every Ted Cruz we send to Washington, I'm willing to put up with two or three "unviable" candidates.
I am starting to think McConnell/CoC’s idea of going against Tea Party candidates in an organized, public manner is going to backfire.
A lot of these incumbents are not that well known outside of their homestates, and many of them have some decent votes. BUT, when you group them together with the McConnells, Grahams and Cornyns, suddenly you can define that canidate nationally in a way you couldn’t before. This legitimizes the Tea Party opposition, and help people get past the “He’s good enough” stage.
Don’t worry. I’m having fun with it. Libs can talk all they want about TEA Party news; it’s November 2014 that will give the real status report.
These primary challenges also keep these politicians up for reelection looking over their shoulders at the watching people.
McConnell, Cornyn, Enzi, Cochran, Graham, Roberts, etc. will all be tacking hard right until their primaries, which will probably frustrate Harry Reid because he can’t pull any of them along to protect Pryor, Begich, Landrieu, etc.
Support Dwayne Stovall or Steve Stockman to oust John Cornyn in TX
Support Joe Carr to oust Lamar Alexander in TN
Support Lee Bright to oust Lindsey Graham in SC
Support Chris McDaniel to oust Thad Cochran in MS
Support Katrina Pierson to oust Pete (NOT Jeff) Sessions in TX-32
Support Bryan Smith to oust Mike Simpson in ID-2
Support David Hale to oust Adam Kinzinger in IL-16
One of these days, GOPe will learn their most important lesson: the Tea Party is their base. IMHO, there are millions of other voters that share our views, but are afraid of coming out publicly, for fear of being excoriated by friends and family that still tote the Democrat label.
It takes time. I married into a large Hispanic family that was Democrat, but pro-life. I never backed down from my conservative principles, and they eventually broke away. Same thing with my sister.
Looking back on it, I've been doing it successfully since 1980, during the Reagan-Carter election. My German neighbors were convinced that Reagan was going to start WWIII. I gave them the other side of the story that they weren't getting from their media.
When our hostages were released by the Iranians on Inauguration Day, my neighbors "got it."
John Cornyn claims to be the 2nd most conservative member of the Senate. Yet, as Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee he hand-selected these "Republican" candidates:
he FAILED and hid behind a meaningless vote later. |
Swiping that - and sending to Cornpone with EVERY campaign donation request he sends to me!
Cornyn also took his office phones off the hook when Cruz was trying to defund ObamaCare. And then he voted to fund ObamaCare in the cloture vote. Total RINO weasel.
I guess you fooled me. Your comment looked very sincere.

I’ve been saying that we need a Revolution for months. Where are the Conservative leaders who have the soap box and the wherewithal to call for America to rise up and and say: “We’re mad as hell and we’re not taking it anymore.” and, march on Washington so densely that we shut that freakin’ place down and scare the crap out of everyone in power there?
I’m not radical; I’ve just had it. Damn right!
