DENVERIf Democrats were trying to put the calamitous Evie Hudak era behind them on Tuesday night, they didnt quite succeed.
A Democratic Party vacancy committee selected Arvada city councilwoman and Hudak associate Rachel Zenzinger to fill the vacancy left by Hudaks eleventh-hour resignation last month in the face of a recall threat.
Zenzingers position on hot-button issues like gun control remains to be seen, but in the short run shes not going to make anyone forget about Hudak. Zenzinger served as Hudaks campaign manager in the 2012 election and was reportedly Hudaks choice for the vacancy.
While ProgressNow Colorado praised the pick, calling Zenzinger a superb choice, conservatives criticized her selection as a case of Hudak déjà vu.
Sen. Hudaks constituents were hungry for change and liberal activists served up more of the same, said Kelly Maher, executive director of Compass Colorado, in a statement. Zenzinger may have a different name, but shes been behind Hudaks policies. Anyone who thinks Zenzinger is going to stand up to her own Democrat majority is fooling themselves.
Hudak resigned Nov. 27 as volunteers with Recall Hudak Too were less than a week away from submitting recall petitions to the Secretary of States office. By stepping down before a recall vote, Hudak allowed Democrats to choose her successor and keep their 18-17 majority in the state Senate.
The move confirmed that Democrats were worried about whether Hudak could survive a recall. During the petition drive, Hudaks image took a beating as recallers dredged up some of her most controversial moments in the legislature, such as when she told a rape victim at a hearing that having a gun wouldnt have saved her from the assault.

Colorado Ping ( Let me know if you wish to be added or removed from the list.)
I knew they would try something like this but I figured it be less obvious.
So does Hudak become Zenzinger’s campaign manager now?
This is right out of the CA political playbook.
When you are sinking, rearrange the deck chairs till the people forget you are sinking.
Keep me on your list. It’s a hoot and very encouraging to see what the Coloradans are doing to ‘those who represent them’/NOT.
Zenzinger may be acting as a placeholder for Hudak, who may be eligible to run again for the Senate District 19 seat in November 2014.
Can an appointed rep be recalled?...............
I emailed Dudley Brown (RMGO) and asked him what the next move is. No reply.
Reading the Colorado constitution, whether or not Hudak resigns, there MUST be an election.
In our constitution about recall law states the words, “entitled to vote for a successor.” Appointing someone to replace the elected official if the target of the recall chooses to resign is theft of said constitutional entitlement guaranteeing a vote.
A new election should be started to allow the voting process to commence.
You are on the list
Add me to the list please.

Huh, my brother-in-law is the Mayor of Arvada
Believe yes but the timing is an issue.
What does he have to say about this mess ?
There’s a great gun store there, though.
Does she agree with Hudak or does she not. If she agrees then start the petition effort again with the justification that she is no better than Hudak.
She told the Democrat selection committee that she was in favor of the gun bills.
Fire up the recall.
I’m not an expert, but I don’t think that’s possible. We’ll have to dump her next November.
He fancies himself a conservative but he keeps his political opinions pretty quiet. He has to walk a pretty fine line out there.
