WASHINGTON — In a surprise move, Representative Steve Stockman of Texas, a conservative, filed just before the Monday evening deadline to challenge Senator John Cornyn, two-term incumbent, in next year’s Texas Republican primary.
Mr. Stockman’s move against Mr. Cornyn, the second-ranking Senate Republican, offers the potential for yet another ideological showdown in the 2014 Republican Senate primaries.

I hate to be a debbie downer, but I am a constituent, and strong supporter of Stockman (actually helped with campaign), he has little or no chance against this RINO turncoat. Wish a better candidate had emerged.

I did a quick read-up on Stockman, he seems like a capable guy. I’m curious to know why you feel this way - is it just money and statewide recognition that he lacks?

If you do not believe it can happen, it won’t. Remember Cruz couldn’t beat Dewhurst either.
The establishment leadership will simply run a conservative “low iq” (aka sucker/useful idiot) candidate to split the conservative vote and protect cornyn.

I guess this will only mean more TV and radio ads, ad nauseam, from Cornyn trying to convince The T.E.A. Party he’s a ‘real’ Conservative.
Exactly the same tack that was taken by Dewhurst.
Be ready for it, people. Stockman will be a huge improvement over McCornyn.
Time for REAL Conservative TEXANS to roll up our sleeves and expel this back-stabbing RINO.
Buck up, brother! We can and must see Stockman win this race. Remember that everyone said that Cruz couldn’t get past Dewhurst, too.

I had same experience. I called every phone he had listed on site, all busy.
When I finally got through and told them I was mad at his lack of support to the other Texas Senator, his staff started making excuses.
I cut ‘em off and told them there was no excuse for not doing the right thing.
We need improvement in that Senate seat, and if Stockman is the guy, I will send him a check pronto.
As a witness to the fact, having tried to contact cornyn that morning, yes, same guy.
Well, I was able to speak with Cruz’ office that am , told them I couldn’t get through to cornyn, was disgusted, frustrated, and was able to give support to Cruz who went on later that day to filibuster
I just got off the phone with a staffer for Rep. Stockman.

Don't get me wrong, I'll support him again, but just wish a better candidate had surfaced.

No one can beat Cruz at communication as he won the 1992 US debate championship.
We do not need an eloquent communicator, just someone who shares our own moral compass.
Harry Reid is not a good communicator, but gets results for his faction.
If you want a good communicator, follow the press idiots who idolize Obama, who is truthfully not a good communicator at all if he has to ad lib.
Nothing would make me happier than to see him unseat Coryn. But those of you who think the same lightning that happened with Cruz with Dewhurst will happen here are not being realistic.
The GOP RINO money/smear machine is going to let Coryn squash Steve like a bug. This is going to get really ugly, and what is going to happen is going to be really sickening.

I know Steve too. I worked with him on two of his campaigns against Jack Brooks. And guess what! We finally got him elected!
You’re right that he’s not as articulate as Cruz. Few are. But that doesn’t mean he’ll get crushed. You need to stop whining and start working to help get him elected. Stop already with the negativity and get busy telling people how solidly conservative and fearless he is. Volunteer to work on his campaign. Convert people who aren’t dyed-in-the-wool Dems or Cornyn supporters. All this negative energy needs to be turned around and put to much better use than to provide DUmmies with a FReeper post to tweet and retweet.
Your’re right on the DUmp comment, and I will keep my mouth shut. Still have to pick our battles, and this one isn’t one for me.
