“...but the IRS says volunteer firefighters are technically employees...”

Our legal system is so convoluted that every type of activity needs to be defined to the smallest detail to determine just who or what agency has dominion over said activity.

As a child I remember hearing bible stories about Jesus dealing with the Pharisees and being accused of ‘working’ on the Sabbath. The manner in which that legal system was applied was clearly wrong and foolish.

Just look at where we are today.

form the article: "the IRS says volunteer firefighters are technically employees if they're on the job more than 30 hours per week,
making them subject to Obamacare's employee-mandate rules.

Then that makes ALL OFA (Organizing for America) and ALL Acorn related "Volunteers" as employees , and thus subject to healthcrap
This governements' selective interpretation of which laws it will enforce, and those which it will ignore,
clearly indicte that this nation is a nation without laws.
Arbitrary and capricious is not lawful !!

Unionized Fire Fighters Love Obama!

The unionized and paid departments will do just fine under Obamacare. They have a carve-out, for sure.

Every volunteer department that closes will be replaced by a paid, unionized department.

Are there any volunteer FDs w more than 50 employees?

Are they really covered by O’care rules?

Hate to say this but the best way to repeal this law is to not allow any exemptions-firefighters included. It’s the only way to make at least some of the other half wake up.

This 33 year FF is with you on that Brother Firefighter.

This week our department was looking at a $100,000 SCBA replacement program. That's just one item VFD's have to purchase. Engines in most districts have to be less than 20 years old in order to keep local fire insurance rates down at $400-$500k a crack, without equipment.

As for the one who questioned the 30 hour thing, you would be surprised how much time a Volunteer participates with calls, meetings, details and training in a week.

Please call/write your Senators and Congresscritters (even if they’re GOP) about this. And encourage your fellow fight fighters to do likewise.

They need to hear complaints from any and every one who is adversely affected.
