If you were bestowed the honor to perform at a presidential inauguration, wouldn't you want your parents in attendance regardless of their political beliefs?
Pop diva Katy Perry doesn't think so, for she told Marie Claire in an interview published Monday that because her parents are Republicans that didn't vote for Barack Obama, they couldn't watch her perform at his inauguration in January:
Perry - My parents are Republicans, and I'm not. They didn't vote for Obama, but when I was asked to sing at the inauguration, they were like, 'We can come.' And I was like, 'No, you can't. I love you so much, but that—on principle.' They understood, but I was like, 'How dare you?' in a way."
How dare they want an opportunity to see their daughter perform at a presidential inauguration?

I’ve been invited to see plenty of Democrats. I went becuase there was food and a bunch of other friends were going.,
They know where I stand and I get to be the joke in conversation.
Still, I’ve had some aggressive nuts wanting to know why I was there and they have been pretty hostile a few times.
But, my friends have always stepped, telling them I’m with them and a pretty good guy.
It’s fun but, there are times I wish I was back in Oklahoma where everyone I ran into was like me and I got invited to everything.
I’m like a missionary in China out here in the Bay Area.
Her parents are Republican and Christian. They likely devoted time and resources to inspire and develop her “talent”. This is the thanks she gives them. Sad, sorry person this Katy Perry is.

Parents should have thanked her for preventing them from having such a disgraceful memory. To me, singing for Obama would be like singing for an abortion clinic.
I’ve heard of her but I have no idea who she is. I think I’m glad.

Well I have never considered that, but given her minimal talent, inexplicable success, and the subject matter of her songs - I could titally believe that.

It would seem she puts these Obama folks on the level of deity, which is the only kind of entity that would deserve to be listened to more closely than her parents.
