Per the Texas Tribune twitter feed: Republican Party of Texas confirms that @SteveWorks4You will run against @JohnCornyn in the GOP U.S. Senate primary. Story to come. #tx2014
Per the rules/law you cannot run for two offices at the same time...He had to let the 36th go to file for this race, IIRC...
I like Stockman, he was the guy pushing for CHL-carry on campus. I think I sent him some money.
Cornyn can go soak his head in a bucket of snapping turtles for all I care.
Steve Stockman for U.S. Senate BUMP!
Hi! I just saw this this morning.
I wonder what Ted Cruz thinks.
Cornyn has to go.
Hi back at ya.
Cruz is in a tough spot but most of all he wants kindred souls with him in the Senate, so I would think he’d be pleased.
But will not publicly take sides - based on prior comments.
But what he THINKS is another matter.
Cornyn is an operator.
We need a conservative (Constitutional) statesman and fighter!
I am so sick of operators.
(A bonus in this is that the Left will go batty against Stockman, and that’s fine by me; bring it on!)
True enough but it won’t be a smooth rode.
“....The outspoken conservative entered the race shortly before Texas’s filing deadline, and with just $32,000 in cash on hand and $163,000 in debt...”
Why not? Ted Cruz was a long shot, too (even though he wasn't running against an incumbent).
Ideologically, Stockman beats the ever living snot out of Cornyn...
Financially, it is an entirely different race...Stockman might very well make up some of the difference, but I do not believe those funds will be enough to expose him to the heavy districts that do not know him as well...
Personally, knowing him from way back in his early days, I would love to know what goober in his inner circle told him this was doable...That would be very telling...
Cruz beat Dewhurst on the message, and Cruz’s message resonated with the voters...Plus we were getting tired of Dewhurst’s BS...
This may be similar, in that Stockman’s message might resonate better with Texas voters, but it will take a wide net thrown in at the last minute (basically) Cruz had a little more time to get it done before the primary...Beating the Dems will almost be a cinch...
I also do not believe many of the big city and county republican parties (leadership/elites) will be warm to Stockman...
I saw a bit of that last night when the word (buzz) started getting around and the GOPe’s started fomenting the usual poo poo...
I think there will be a noisy row and possibly this could be a referendum on Cruz. More about Cruz in the eyes of Texans as much it will be about Stockman. You know what I mean?
If voters still approve of Cruz in spite of the controversy for stalling the vote in the senate, Stockman will enjoy a smoother road than if Cruz bears some loss of support in Texas over his magnificent filibuster speech.
The Houston chronicle is already running hit pieces on Stockman.
The media hates him.
good enough for me.
