The plants operator and the utility responsible for the clean-up Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) detected record radiation levels on a duct which connects reactor buildings and the 120 meter tall ventilation pipe located outside on Friday. TEPCO measured radiation at eight locations around the pipe with the highest estimated at two locations - 25 Sieverts per hour and about 15 Sieverts per hour, the company said.
This is the highest level ever detected outside the reactor buildings, according to local broadcaster NHK. Earlier TEPCO said radiation levels of at least 10 Sieverts per hour were found on the pipe.

and let us not forget the terrorists now know how easy it is to hijack radioactive cargo in Mexico and how easy it is to get over the border
Not to mention that article told the world Tijuana has a waste disposal site.
Yes.
It would be a real good time to shut down the border and start enforcing present immigration laws.
They better be on the watch for Godzilla and Mothra!
25 Sv = 2500 REM
Lethal dose is 500-600 REM
Tried to get excited about this radiation threat some months ago. Got ridicule from pompous doubters of the pacific plume theory . This radioactive waste is spreading.
Starfish from Alaska to Mexico are turning to goo. Attempts to blame it on a virus (to dodge radiation claims) just fell flat. The Monterey aquarium uses filtered sea water treated with UV light to sterilize it. The starfish at the aquarium just turned to goo as well.
Who sells an economical Geiger counter for grocery store shoppers?

Sounds like the high readings are INSIDE the duct.
“The investigation found radiation doses of 95 millisieverts per hour 5 feet from the SGTS piping at the base of the exhaust stack...
Radiation levels inside the pipe were measured at more than 10 Sieverts per hour.
TEPCO assumes that the high dose areas identified by investigations, is likely due to two or more highly radioactive sources in the piping. It is estimated that the sources may around 25 Sieverts per hour near-surface, with a dose rate of some 15 Sieverts per hour.”
Tijuana IS a waste disposal site.
My husband bought one at a yard sale last year. Not sure if it works or not.
lol....I guess it would be hard to find a waste site in waste!
Measuring contamination in food is harder than it looks. It is normally expressed as becquerels per volumetric value. A becquerel is one disintegration per second or 60 counts per minute. Alpha emitters (e.g. cesium 137) inside meat will be blocked by the meat itself. Hotter stuff like strontium 90 is a hard beta emitter. Strontium mimics calcium, so you'll find it in milk, cheese and green leafy vegetables. A cheap geiger counter won't help much. A decent device can be purchased in the $500 to $900 range. Good enough to spot a hot rain shower. Go to Amazon and enter "geiger counter" to see some examples. The pancake sensors are most sensitive. Beware of taking them on airplane trips. The sensors can be damaged by the low air pressure.
Can we depend on the FDA screen foods for radiation?
No.The simplest items to avoid are fish, milk products and green leafy vegetables. Grow your own veggies in a greenhouse. In the end, it is just a delaying tactic.
Another issue is why Canada passed legislation last week making any discussion of Fukushima a crime under the Official State's Secrets Act. Or why is there a Level 5 Radiation alert out for the entire East Coast ?
Why is the media being tightly censored concerning Fukushima ? The answer is obvious to any thinking person. Must be, among other things, our corrupt Congress and Obama's corruption by nuclear energy people . . . ?
