In their zeal to tout their faith in the public square, conservatives in Oklahoma may have unwittingly opened the door to a wide range of religious groups, including Satanists who are seeking to put their own statue next to a Ten Commandments monument outside the statehouse.
The Republican-controlled legislature in the state known as the buckle of the Bible Belt authorised the privately funded Ten Commandments monument in 2009. It was placed on the Capitol grounds last year despite criticism from legal experts, who questioned its constitutionality. The Oklahoma chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union has filed a lawsuit seeking its removal.
But the New York-based Satanic Temple saw an opportunity. It notified the state's Capitol Preservation Commission that it wants to donate a monument and plans to submit one of several possible designs this month, said Lucien Greaves, a spokesman for the temple.
"We believe that all monuments should be in good taste and consistent with community standards," Greaves wrote in letter to state officials. "Our proposed monument, as an homage to the historic/literary Satan, will certainly abide by these guidelines."
Greaves said one potential design involves a pentagram, a satanic symbol, while another is meant to be an interactive display for children. He said he expects the monument, if approved by Oklahoma officials, would cost about $20,000.

Satanists plan statue to stand behind Ten Commandments in Oklahoma
“Get thee behind Me, Satan!”
Another one of those situations where all I need to say is: see the tag line.
Talk about strange bedfellows. I wonder what *those* children will look like.
“CAIR also objected that the prophet was shown with a sword, reinforcing long-held stereotypes of Muslims as intolerant conquerors”
And your point is, CAIR?
LOL
The devil you say?
Dunno if they will know anything about a G-d but they sure will know there is a GOD.
I think you're confusing Satanists with athiests. Satanists recognize a divine being, they're just 180 degrees off in their beliefs.
No, but what if the Muslims demand space for a monument as well? Can the legislature turn them down without leaving the 10 Commandment monument open for challenge?
If they want to put up a statue of the devil at their expense, fine. I think that statue will get pranked pretty quickly, IMHO.
Wouldn't surprise me.
Why I think it is wonderful ...
It will just sit there. It will do nothing. People won’t flock to it. People won’t be influenced to turn to Satan by it. It will prove to be useless and inept and ever so slightly silly.
The best way to expose evil is to revel in it’s ineptness. Let it sit there, I say, and see what the people do.
Nothing to fear here. BFD.
“Brady Henderson, the legal director for ACLU Oklahoma, said if state officials allow one type of religious expression, they must allow alternative forms of expression, although he said a better solution might be to allow none at all on state property.”
Her premise is not sound. They use these sort of illogical arguments to get what they really want, “none on state property”.
Actually, the Satanists do have “commandments” and scriptures of their own, though I should point out that Anton Szandor LaVey (whose daughter claims to have struck him down magically with a death curse) no more speaks for all Satanists than Pope Francis speaks for all Christians. I think we should definitely encourage Satanists to put what they really believe on display for everyone to see. Try these on for size:
1. Satan represents indulgence instead of abstinence!
2. Satan represents vital existence instead of spiritual pipe dreams!
3. Satan represents undefiled wisdom instead of hypocritical self-deceit!
4. Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it instead of love wasted on ingrates!
5. Satan represents vengeance instead of turning the other cheek!
6. Satan represents responsibility to the responsible instead of concern for psychic vampires!
7. Satan represents man as just another animal, sometimes better, more often worse than those that walk on all-fours, who, because of his divine spiritual and intellectual development, has become the most vicious animal of all!
8. Satan represents all of the so-called sins, as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification!
9. Satan has been the best friend the Church has ever had, as He has kept it in business all these years!

This all dovetails pretty effectively with what leftists practice and preach, wouldn’t you agree? I think we should indeed allow, even encourage the Satanists to put their religious monuments up next to ours, and watch the bigoted atheists in the Anti-Christian Litigation Union go insane at having their bluff called. Food sacrificed to worthless idols never hurt anybody, and neither will monuments to that worthless loser Satan and his greedy, rapacious, murderous megalomaniacal followers.
The article has one small flaw. It is an INVERTED pentagram, that the recognized LeVeyan Satanists employ.
I interject this minutiae, just to keep the record straight, since the Pagan/Wiccans sued the V.A., in April 2007, for the right for inclusion of their symbol, an UPRIGHT pentagram, to go on deceased Pagan/Wiccan veterans’ headstones.
(Upright, as in the single point of a natural drawn 5-pointed star on the top, as opposed to the LeVeyan star with the single point down, with the circle surrounding/enclosing it.)
As to the Satanists’ statue enduring the holiday season, remember, that the Winter Solstice, that Pagans/Wiccans/Satanists point towards is Dec. 21st. Let’s see if it gets there.
I do hold to the odd idea that The First Amendment is for all Americans, or it is for none. Everybody has the right “to be wrong in the other guy’s eyes”, (except mooslims because of their peculiar I kill you if you don’t believe thing). I secured my beliefs with 3 years in SouthEast Asia, and survived a mooslim bombing.
“Is there a difference between satan and mohammed.”
mohammed was a punk seduced by satan
Will not last long. Hopefully, patriots will destroy it the first night after it’s put up.
Dec. 21st is the day I pretend to be the 1st day of spring to help me get through the long MN winter. (the days start getting longer)
