The problem is he referenced Nazis, a political party, and compared them to Croats, an ethnic group.

Should have compared Nazis to Ustaše, but then of course nobody would have known what he was talking about.

If he was going to discuss Croat atrocities, he should have compared them to German, not Nazi, atocities.

Technically very correct. But that doesn’t change the fact that the French position is preposterous — as are all “incitement to racial hatred” laws.

Except, Germans aren’t an ethnic group either. If we follow your argument, then nobody can say Germans were Nazis during WWII.

Sure, you can nitpick party membership vs. general population, but as a blanket statement, it is correct.
