[Democrats] just spent all year trying to effectively destroy the gun lobby, so why in heaven's name [should] we give them this Christmas present?" -- GOAs Michael Hammond on the plastic gun ban (ABC News, Dec. 3, 2013)
The U.S. House of Representatives did a very dangerous thing Tuesday -- and, apparently, it did so with the consent of one gun organization.
By voice vote, the House slammed through a ten-year re-authorization of the poorly drafted 1988 plastic gun ban.
Lest anyone be confused about how the anti-gun Left views this, USA Today crowed, on the front page of Wednesday's newspaper that the HOUSE SAYS YES TO ONE GUN BILL -- Plastic gun ban only firearm legislation to pass since November.
Taken alone, this gives the Obama administration, if it chooses, another three years to use the 1988 law to ban large numbers of guns.
But there is an even bigger danger: Chuck Schumer held a press conference the same day to indicate that he will use the House-passed bill as a vehicle to pass even more gun control. We don't expect to know Schumer's bill number or language before he actually offers it, but it will purport to deal with guns from 3-D printers, while actually being much broader.
So here's what we are doing: We are asking our friends in the Senate to put a hold on any effort by Schumer to amend the House bill.
The Senate will only be in session four or five days next week before the House goes out for the year, and Schumer may not be able to get time on the Senate floor without unanimous consent from all senators.
So, by doing this, we would force Schumer to give up on his vehicle for banning printer-guns if he wanted any reauthorization of the 1988 bill. If Schumer remains adamant, there will be no re-authorization at all. Even if he capitulates, we'll see what happens.
It's not a perfect outcome. But we think it's an outcome we can probably achieve.
ACTION: Click here to Contact your Senators. Ask them to oppose any effort by Senator Chuck Schumer to add gun control to the H.R. 3626, the plastic gun ban reauthorization which passed in the House.
When you outlaw plastic guns, only outlaws (and terrorists) will have them.
Absolutely correct and you and I know that, Jim. Sadly, the rest of the country doesn’t. The bill isn’t an issue for the law abiding as you and I aren’t going to not declare our weapon when we travel via plane.
The whole point of this is political cover. Don’t give the Dems anything to hold on to. Let them continue to slide due to Democratcare (we need to stop calling it Obamacare - they all voted for it).
Boehner is doing the right thing here, protecting the brand so we can win elections, take over the Senate, strengthen the House and in 2016 regain the Presidency and undo the damage. Only winning counts. This bill is good strategy and leaves the Democrats in a lose/lose position.
Schumer’s amendments to the bill will be painted as radical by the NRA which will only hurt Dems worse. It’s brilliant. Let’s just follow the plan and win.
At the same time, we need to be on guard for treachery. This isn’t it.
Boehner is an idiot.
Ask ObamaCare.
Not if your job is herding sheep and maintaining a GOP majority. What exactly makes him an idiot?
Another reason I quit the NRA
like pols who claim to want to shrink government and then get elected and vote to only slow the rate of growth.
You mean besides being an open borders, homo rights supporting, non-principled surrender monkey and all around liberal GOP-e RINO. Ain’t that enough.
“By the way, the 2nd Amendment COVERS guns made of ANY material - I dont see anything in it to the contrary!”
The 2nd amendment doesn’t mention guns, it says arms. Therefore we have the same rights to own RPG’s and FIM-92 Stinger missiles as we do to own a single shot .22 rifle, at least, under the constitution. Which, of course, is being ignored or diluted by even the NRA and other supposed supporters of the 2nd amendment. Let’s quit the defeatist notion that 2nd amendment rights means fighting to own automatic rifles, and demand the rights granted by the 2nd amendment. The right to ALL arms, which we will need to fight a corrupt and tyrannical government.
By the way, his job is to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, so help me God. And he’s a total failure in that regard. The man has never met a founding or constitutional principle that he’s not willing to betray in an attempt to keep him and his statist/RINO colleagues in power.
Amen. That’s what it’s all about.

Maybe next weekend - Part II of "The Hobbit" is opening.
Unobtainium
Unfortunately, thanks in large part to the idiots in the Congressional District that re-elected Boehner ......
I'll tell you what there ought to be this weekend: mass downloads of Defense Dist's plastic gun blueprints.
Time for civil disobedience: massive downloads and massive distribution through bit torrent!
He’s what you’re going to get as a national coalition leader. The House GOP is more conservative than its been in a generation or two. That Boehner got reelected tells you that he has some skills and is valuable politically. Being Speaker of the House isn’t simple. You represent a diverse coalition and an even wider base of supporters, none of whom necessarily see eye to eye.
We’re not a nation of FReepers. It’s easy for us to agree 95% on everything and you still find long, long threads with FReepers debating all kinds of issues. Humans are political by nature. It takes a good sense of the possible to make things happen. We can wish for things, work for things and make things happen. Think of that as a Venn diagram of ever shrinking choices/opportunities.
There aren’t enough conservative votes to take back America today. There are enough conservative/moderate votes to begin to take back America today. We need to play it smart.
What the House GOP did was keep the focus on failure, abject failure via the Democratic Party. Not voting to continue this very “reasonable” bill (that’s how the media would carry it and the LIVs would hear it) would just take the heat off of Democratcare and the failure of the Democrats to properly run the country. Why do that?
I actually think the Framers had in mind any small arms available to the government’s men, e.g. flame throwers, machine guns, anti-tank guns, grenades, etc., but do you really think we could cobble together enough votes right now to get all the infringements on the 2nd removed?
You fight with the army you have. Do I wish we had a Constitutionally minded nation with a like-minded POTUS, SCOTUS, Senate and House? Absolutely, but we’re not going to get there by losing elections.
