URGENT: Gun Control Coming to the Senate Floor on Monday

“[Democrats] just spent all year trying to effectively destroy the gun lobby, so why in heaven's name [should] we give them this Christmas present?" -- GOA’s Michael Hammond on the plastic gun ban (ABC News, Dec. 3, 2013)

The U.S. House of Representatives did a very dangerous thing Tuesday -- and, apparently, it did so with the consent of one gun organization.

By voice vote, the House slammed through a ten-year re-authorization of the poorly drafted 1988 plastic gun ban.

Lest anyone be confused about how the anti-gun Left views this, USA Today crowed, on the front page of Wednesday's newspaper that the “HOUSE SAYS YES TO ONE GUN BILL -- Plastic gun ban only firearm legislation to pass since November.”

Taken alone, this gives the Obama administration, if it chooses, another three years to use the 1988 law to ban large numbers of guns.

But there is an even bigger danger: Chuck Schumer held a press conference the same day to indicate that he will use the House-passed bill as a vehicle to pass even more gun control. We don't expect to know Schumer's bill number or language before he actually offers it, but it will purport to deal with guns from 3-D printers, while actually being much broader.

So here's what we are doing: We are asking our friends in the Senate to put a “hold” on any effort by Schumer to amend the House bill.

The Senate will only be in session four or five days next week before the House goes out for the year, and Schumer may not be able to get time on the Senate floor without “unanimous consent” from all senators.

So, by doing this, we would force Schumer to give up on his vehicle for banning printer-guns if he wanted any reauthorization of the 1988 bill. If Schumer remains adamant, there will be no re-authorization at all. Even if he capitulates, we'll see what happens.

It's not a perfect outcome. But we think it's an outcome we can probably achieve.

ACTION: Click here to Contact your Senators. Ask them to oppose any effort by Senator Chuck Schumer to add gun control to the H.R. 3626, the plastic gun ban reauthorization which passed in the House.

If the Senate changes the House bill and then passes it, would the House have to vote on the bill again, because it was changed by the Senate?

If the Senate changes the House bill, the bill will go to conference, and the bill that comes out of conference will be voted on by both houses.

Since the bill passed the house on a simple voice vote, there is no record of who voted 'yea' and who voted 'nay.'

In the Senate, it will take 60 votes to end debate (cloture,) and there will have to be some Republican votes to vote for cloture because unlike when Obamacare was passed, the Democrats don't have 60 members in the Senate.

Then, once debate is ended, those same turn-coat slimy Republican Senators that voted to end debate are then free vote 'nay' to the actual bill, knowing that there are 51 Democratic votes to actually pass the bill. So those RINOs can then say "I'm on the record as voting against the bill" when in fact it was their cloture vote that allowed the bill to pass.

The same thing Schumer and McCain want to do with immigration reform.

It’s a very narrow bill out of the House covering one issue. If the Dems load it up it will die.

Says who? There are enough RINOs in the Senate to pass a gun bill. And once it goes to conference, a different bill will result.

This is the GOP wanting to appear 'moderate' and 'reasonable' and the Democrats using it against them.

There can be no attempts at compromise with Democrats.

The Senate,as currently populated,is a lost cause. At this moment all efforts to ruin Osama Obama’s day must be focused on the House.

And of what material is the barrel of an “undetectable gun” made?

“HOUSE SAYS YES TO ONE GUN BILL — Plastic gun ban only firearm legislation to pass since November.”

Completely ignorant of the fact that those donkey-holes on the Hill shouldn’t even be discussing firearms on the floor while In Session, USA Today’s headline of “HOW ON EARTH COULD THIS HAVE HAPPENED?!?” the day after the first shots of the Second Civil War ring out, will be doubly infuriating.

Hopefully, I will have passed away before then.

Only the blind would not recognize that gun control is being pushed by Russian commies that have infiltrated the USA government.

"Is there a scheduled mass shooting this weekend?"

And if so, will photos of the murderer look strangely familiar?

It already passed the house. Don’t be surprised when it gets 60 wotes for cloture in the Senate, then passes with zero Republican votes.

Here speaketh the U.S. Government teacher: The version that passed in the House was sans the Schumer "Amendment." If little chuckie tacks on his amendment language it doesn't just go to the Senate and then to signature. Any new language added in the Senate has to go back through the House conference committee and then be voted on by the full house IF it even gets out of committee. It will surely be DOA on any House re-vote. This is fear mongering for the sake of fund raising by conservative PACs.

The USA Dem Party if it were in Nazi Germany, would comfortably and seaminglessly merge with the Nazis. There being little or no diff other than Hitler wanted to liquidate the Jews and the Dems (and the RINOs running the Repubs) would like to liquidate the Conservatives and other traditional pro-U.S.Constitution groups.

With RINOs running the Repub Senate and House, there is little difference between the two Parties.

Even giving them the benefit of many and large doubts, the Dems can be called the Evil Party and the Repubs the Stupid Party.

Proof of stupid? Easy...the Repub RINO leadership is pushing amnesty despite anyone with an IQ more than a box of rocks knows the illegals will vote for the Dems, just as the legal Mexicans do now. For the handouts.

If the Repubs can not get a majority of the legal Mexicans, how can they expect to get a majority of the illegals, who are low income types looking for freebies?

A real duh? issue but the Repubs are not smart enough to see what the average person can see.

That has to be passed again after conference. Do you really think House conservatives are going to black jack us?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_congressional_conference_committee#Going_to_conference

If the bill fails it will be on the Dem Senate’s head. That covers us both ways. Not every vote is part of the conspiracy to destroy liberty.

It’s Sandy Hook week. Schumer’s has this circled on his calendar all year. It’s like a holiday for him.

Liberals indeed want to be exempt just like Nazis did. With Obama they are nearing the Obama party promise land Hitler talk. It is as if God chose the best man in Jesus and now is going to let us choose the worst man that could be found from the gutters of society. In fact this man is being shaped thus if he is not there yet.

Obama reminds me of the Alinsky like evil character in Roger Rabbit... simply the worst of the worst and obscure. Not just the worst President but worst man ever, period.

The bills that come out of conference can be Trojan horses. If Boehner allows the conference bill to come to the floor for a vote, it will only take 25 RINOs to defect and vote with the Dems.

This same strategy is being used for immigration reform. Boehner and Cantor are intent on passing piecemeal immigration reform legislation that will be sent to conference and paired with the Gang of 8 bill. If Boehner allows that bill to be voted on in the House, then it is over because there are more than 25 Reps in the House who will vote with the Dems and pass it. Boehner has said that he will not allow any legislation to come on the floor, whether the bill originates in the House or out of conference, that does not have the support of the GOP caucus. However, Boehner has already violated the "Hastert Rule" seven times.
