I have mixed views on the late President Mandela. Yes, President Mandela helped in ending Apartheid and for that he must be given credit for. Apartheid was wrong. Of course in Africa, the worst violence there are Blacks of 1 ethnic group killing Blacks of another-Rwanda, Congo and Apartheid was not genocide.
President Mandela forgave those who practiced Apartheid. With him being a terrorist, he did go to prison. No, I would not have voted for him, but South African citizens did vote for him in a democratic election and though his Socialist politics including friendship with Fidel Castro (murderous dictator) is wrong, Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe is worse.
With Zimbabwe, President Robert Mugabe in 1986 was different from who he has been since 2000. Since 2000, Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe has become a corrupt dictator and in 2008 Queen Elizabeth revoked his knighthood. The fact that Robert Mugabe has been a dictator since 2000 takes away from any good he did such as helping Zimbabwe’s independence.
With President Mandela, we can differ with his Socialist politics and the apologism he has for homosexuality is wrong. But what he did to end Apartheid is what he must be given credit for and he was not a dictator unlike Mugabe as again, it was the South African citizens who voted him President. That’s my view.

Apartheid was going to end with or without him, like the Soviet Union, it’s days were numbered because it simply wasn’t sustainable.
As said, I have mixed views. Mandela said that it was NOT a war against Whites but a war against Apartheid. There were I think also Whites who were in the ANC. I do not support his Marxist views and as said, I opposed his friendship with Fidel Castro-the dictator who has jailed, executed and killed opponents in name of Cuba’s Communism. Yes, Blacks killing other Blacks in Africa’s genocide is worse and again, agree with you that Apartheid was not genocide.
But Apartheid is still wrong. If a govt. had a policy which discriminated against us, treated us poorly, we would be protesting against it, using violent means, etc. Mandela spent many years in prison so the law did punish him for trying to overthrow the govt. Mandela again forgave those who practiced Apartheid and as I understand, when he was President he hired those who practiced this because he believed what is past is past and time.
I don’t think Mandela should have been President because again, I differ with his Marxist views, his pro-homosexual views. But he can’t be compared to a Dictator Robert Mugabe because again, Mandela was democratically elected in South Africa by their citizens.
