Bratton to lead NYPD for second time

New York City mayor-elect Bill de Blasio announced on Thursday that the city’s former top cop is returning to the post.

De Blasio appointed William Bratton, a 66-year-old Boston native, to succeed Ray Kelly, saying the "proven crime-fighter" with decades of law enforcement experience will keep the nation's biggest city safe.

Bratton first served as NYPD commissioner under Mayor Rudolph Giuliani from 1994 to 1996. He has also led the Boston and Los Angeles police departments and has worked at several private security firms since 2009, when his 7-year LAPD tenure ended after expanding the department's use of stop-and-frisk tactics.

Interesting choice. Perhaps if Di Blasio keeps his distance NYC might not return to the hell of the 70s/early 80s.

First and only smart move I’ve ever seen from DiBlasio.

Perhaps Di Blasio is actually interested in have a future in State or National politics instead of just being the “commie revolutionary” that couldn't get elected dog catcher outside New York City. I not saying he's NOT a leftist loon by any stretch, but maybe he is a practical leftist loon....

Trying to head off criticism over his gun control stance.

No mention in the Fox News article of where Bratton stands on gun control and civilian gun confiscation which is very important with the passage of the so-called SAFE Act.

There are rumblings of discontent in DUmmyville, as this is apparently not the only less-than-radical appointment that DeBlasio has made in the past several days.

Could he have pulled a reverse-Obama here? Lied and said he was MORE radical than he really is, just to get elected?

You can bet DeBlasio has gotten his marching orders from the liberal elite. They’ll stand for anything but the open mayhem in the streets an idiot like DeBlasio would cause.

They have to feel safe walking to their local latte shop after all.

A Communist hires a patriot. Which shows DiBlasio’s insincerity about his public positions. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad. . . But it beats hiring, I don’t know, Gloria Steinem as Chief of Police.

If Bratton found it difficult working for Giuliani, he’s going to find it REALLY difficult working for DeBlasio.

Bratton when he was LAPD chief did tow the party line of treatment of illegal aliens. For example, he implemented Tony Villar’s policy of not confiscating the cars of illegal aliens caught in traffic violations.

I thought for sure that he’d give this job to Mumia.

I kinda figured he’d hire Al Sharpton. Sharton is as qualified to be police chief as he is a “reverend” or political commentator.

He lasted two years as head of the NYPD under Giuliani? I started work in NYC at the end of the Dinkins administration, and the difference was amazing. But two years? There must be A Story, somewhere.

Rudy felt that Bratton was too much of a publicity hound, getting too much of the credit. It was basically a clash of egos..

Mayor de Blasio doesn’t strike me as being particularly meek, so this could get interesting.

Bratton does seem to enjoy the social scene with his wife, Rikki .

Interesting to see where this goes. I guess if Ray Kelly can work for Bill Clinton, Bratton can work for the Sandinista mayor.

Bratton is making a big career mistake by hitching his wagon to this socialist blasio administration.
