Myelin sheath compromises result in tinnitus. 'Nerve traffic' escapes through openings in the nerve sheath and our ear picks up this noise as a frequency in the form of tinnitus.
I've had tinnitus since before I was a teen. The BEST way to beat tinnitus is TO IGNORE IT AND DON'T 'FOCUS' ON IT!
By the way, my tinnitus isn’t a result of hearing loss. Just the opposite.. I can hear a flea fart. I think it’s BECAUSE my hearing is so good that I can hear my nerve traffic.
Mine is constant, 24-7-365, noises like a thousand crickets in the room at all times............
LOL “Ignore it”
It started when I started to read this article.
I have to leave now & go do something else:)
Wow that’s interesting, thanks for explaining how it works. I’ve had it for about 10 years and didn’t know exactly how it was happening and recently it’s gotten a LOT worse. For example next to a jackhammer I can still hear that damn whistle in my head that’s how bad it is. Before I could ignore it, but now it’s hard as hell especially when I’m in a quiet area. All day long EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I agree, I have had tinnitus for so long I probably would be distressed if it went away. If I think about I hear it and it is LOUD. If I don’t think about it, it’s not a problem. I have a little noise machine by my bed and at night I drown it out.
