My boyfriend feels I am silly not to do banking and bill paying on line. I don’t mind writing checks and figure I am safer that way. Who is correct?
Safety First, thus am in agreement.
Banking and bill paying is secure. HTTPS is still secure. However, they are planning to upgrade internet security at the transport level because HTTPS will not be secure soon enough. The banking websites are well-built and durable.
You have more risk from getting scammed out of your funds than you do someone getting your banking or bill paying information. But writing checks is okay too. I do both.
I don’t do banking and bill paying online either, except for direct deposit of regular income. I’m with you about feeling safer writing out checks. I use cash for regular expenses. It’s not just being less worried about the transaction, it’s that if I use cash locally and write checks for other expenses, I don’t spend as much. Really reading statements and spending cash is a great financial discipline tool.
If you don’t mind writing checks, you are safer not paying bills/banking online. That’s according to a computer security course I took.
