French authorities have filed preliminary charges against Bob Dylan over a 2012 interview in which he is quoted comparing Croatians to Nazis and the Ku Klux Klan.
The charges of public insult and inciting hate were filed against the musician in mid-November, Paris prosecutors office spokeswoman Agnes Thibault-Lecuivre said Tuesday.
They stem from a lawsuit by a Croatian community group in France over remarks in an interview in Rolling Stone magazine in September 2012.

What do you base that on?
When was the last time anyone ever condemned the Croats for their attempted genocide of the Serbs?
Amazing how these old guys keep singing.
Equally and MORE amazing is how people forget history..........
he is a leftwing radical
pretty simple
LOL
99% of his songs are apolitical. In his memoirs he talks about how much he admired Barry Goldwater. He’s written songs in support of Israel and Evangelical Christianity. He wanted nothing to do with the hippies.
Croats are catholic. Serbs are Orthodox. Muslims are Muslims - and there’s a bunch of commies to spice up the mix.
“Blacks know that some whites didn’t want to give up slavery that if they had their way, they would still be under the yoke, and they can’t pretend they don’t know that. If you got a slave master or (a Ku Klux) Klan (member) in your blood, blacks can sense that. That stuff lingers to this day. Just like Jews can sense Nazi blood and the Serbs can sense Croatian blood.”
real apolitical
One of the few...very few...Dylan songs I can listen to is “Duquesne Whistle.” Fairly recent and musically fixed in post production.
They have all had their turn murdering each other - the Serbs have a remarkable record themselves
He says stuff like that to stir up people who take him literally. He has never been an overtly political figure at all. He refused to take part in the 1960s protests.
I think you are wrong about that. I have heard him a few times in interviews and he seemed to have rather conservative views. I don’t believe he is a left winger.
As I recall, the Croats collaborated with Nazi Germany during WWII...
WWI was started over less by those Balkan crazies. Are we willing to go die for Zimmerman?
I believe Dylan may have been referring to the Croat Quasi-Nazi organization during WWII that was very brutal against the Serbs; hence Tito.
In any case, this criminalizing of speech is getting out of hand and Dylan should tell the Croats and the French to pound sand up their collective asses.
Of course they have but Dylan is addressing the latest and past practices of the Croats who were no friends with the Serbs or Jews for that matter....
I find it interesting that Dylan is the only current high profile musician who has the guts to speak out againts the Croats considering their alliance with the Nazis....
Dylan was left of center In the early to middle 60s, mostly in reaction to the Jim Crow laws still in force at the time. Heck, Charlton Heston marched with King and was proud if that till the day he died. Personal freedoms and all that.
Bob’s music matured in the late 60s through the 70s into some real good stuff. Though his vocal styling were NEVER his forte.
Croat crimes in WWII were some of the worst crimes imaginable, even the Nazis had to tell them to tone it down a bit.
Unfortunately most people are ignorant of that fact.........thanks for mentioning it.
Yet Dylan did have an affection for Barry Goldwater even when the civil rights struggle was still going on.
He liked Goldwater's "authentic" cowboy persona which he said reminded him of Tom Mix, and he loved freaking out his more political more conventionally leftist friends.
Sometimes it can be hard to tell if Dylan is serious or joking and if he's a genius or an idiot, but it is refreshing that he wasn't the stereotypical left-wing folk singer.
