Can you imagine getting a phone call that your sweet, seventy-three year old grandma was sucker punched by a roving band of teenaged thugs and she’s now in ICU with a broken jaw and a cracked noggin? You can’t? Yeah, me either. But we should start envisioning such a bizarre scenario for our sainted elders and others because “the knockout game” is all the rage for demonic hood rats lurking the streets.
If you’re not dialed in on the sadistic phenomenon known as the “knock out game” then Google it yourself because I’m not going to provide a link to that chum-slick and give it any traffic. But I will do this for you: I will assist you and yours in avoiding being a potential victim of these vicious sub-human scoundrels. Here’s seven tips to eschew being a stat of such a heinous, violent crime.
1. Since I’m a man of prayer I advise you to pray for protection and not take safety for granted. Call me medieval. Yep, I regularly pray for my loved one’s well-being and trust our Heavenly Father to keep the a-holes a-way.
2. As much as you can, don’t put yourself in the path of a rootless posse of pain. If you have to move to a safer place, then do it.
3. Don’t walk our increasingly mean streets alone and make certain the folks you run with are street smart and will have your back. If you're elderly, I suggest you befriend the Bruce Lee in the neighborhood by making him great meals and, in exchange, have him go with you when you're on a grocery run.
4. Adopt a pit bull, feed it gun powder and call him Satan (or something to that affect); and take him with you everywhere you go.
5. I recommend studying the news clips that show these knock out clowns at work and make a mental note of the age range and the skin color of the culprits. Duh.
6. If you’re young, you’d better get on the stick and become proficient in some form of ass-kicking. The way things are going you’re going to need to know how to throw down for the next few decades given this milieu’s entitlement mentality, our coddling culture and the egregious and growing lack of parental oversight and discipline.
7. Get a concealed carry permit, buy a gun and morph into a proficiency with said weapon that rivals Doc Holliday or Annie Oakley. If you live in some crap city or state that makes it impossible for you to carry out your God-given right of self-defense, then pick your junk up and leave that locale in the dust.
You’re (unfortunately) 100% right; that’s why I ignore certain places because if I never go to them, your scenario can never unfold. OTOH, if the harm seeks you out, well, then it’s survival mode. Call me a racist; can’t say it’s not an accurate statement.
The best way to stay out of trouble is to avoid it - think Titanic and iceberg. If you purposely route yourself (and family and friends) to stay out of harms way as much as you can, you mitigate the amount of harm you put yourself in.
And who is responsible for these ghettos? None other then our lovely friends in the Democrat, progressive,communist party. LBJ wanted to keep them on the plantation and give, give, give. Democrat mayors and legislatures have turned a whole generation of people into Zombies of the state. The Communist will wait a long time to achieve their goals. We are now witnessing it. Oh Tail gunner Joe was right. No one can ever tell me differently.
I live in Placerville Ca, and we are like 95% white and when I see a Black person I say good for them for they have done what I did and gotten out of the cities that are turning into war zones.

3. Go to a cycling supply co and bet one of those little mirrors cyclists use....fix it to the peak of the cap...practice with it.
4. Purchase a sheet rock hammer....have the blade hollow ground and sharpened so you can shave with it.
5....roughen the shaft and rub in pine tree sap for better grip.
6...attach to belt with handle shaft pointing forward using couple of strong magnets ...so your hammer can be easily removed and wielded.
7...in event of attack aim for the fist first....with follow up to neck.
...good hunting.
I understand your wariness and the practical sense of what you are saying.
But how far and how long do you plan to retreat?
Isn't this our country too? Isn't this America? Land of the free and home of the brave?
It ENRAGES me that we are expected simply to cede our safety, our free passage, our common property, our liberty.

There are laws against hunting over bait. Forget it, the police are jealous of problem-solvers and will ball you up and throw you in the calaboose for 100 years. Rice bowl, et cetera.
So we have to learn self-defense, get a pit pull, have someone accompany us to the grocery store, and/or move. I see.

There’s a reason why suburbs are targeted by ghetto folks. In the ghetto, nobody has anything. Everybody is poor. You don’t pick on the poor. Secondly, you don’t crap in your ‘nest’. Your neighborhood is your ‘nest’. There are consequences for targeting neighbors who are no better off than you are. You can and most likely will, find yourself in a world of hurt PDQ.
Even ghetto folks shake their heads with disgust and disdain when a meth-head goes on a break-in rampage. It brings heat down on the neighborhood, and that’s the last thing anybody wants. The very act of police coming to arrest someone puts the whole neighborhood at risk should the bullets fly. Nobody wants to see their kids harmed in that kind of encounter.
It’s a rather dumb thing to take your pit with you if you’re on the streets for any reason. You can’t go into a store, bar, restaurant with it. You’d have to tie it outside and chances are, it will get stolen. If I took my pit, she’d try to lap you to death. You can’t have it both ways, either the dog is vicious, or it isn’t. Dogs can’t make that determination for themselves.
Most people don’t know jack about Pits.
With this knockout game, it doesn’t seem to matter whether you’re out in day light or at night. What are you going to do, hide in fear all your life? A good many folks in the ghetto don’t have cars, they walk or take public transportation but mostly, they walk because public transportation is too expensive. Walking reduces the risk of car accidents. If you aren’t at risk for knockouts, you are at risk for car accidents. Does that risk of car accidents stop you from driving? Bet the answer is no. The risk of injury or death is much greater while driving than the chances of you being mugged or knocked out.
Ghetto neighborhoods are no different than other neighborhoods. The neighbors try to help each other out when they can, and they keep an eye on each other. Actually, maybe there is a greater hyper-rvigilance in the ghetto than in better neighborhoods. Someone is ALWAYS watching. A new face shows up, and everyone knows.
Sooner or later, if you’re new, somebody is going to check you out for attitude. If you’re a ‘strait type’ like I am, as long as you don’t look down your nose, act uppity and standoffish, and you treat people decently, and aren’t a stupid fool, then they’ll just watch. If you kick in when you know someone is really down and out, maybe hungry or the kids need diapers/formula in an emergency...and you keep your mouth shut...NEVER gossip...you’ll do ok.
I live in the ghetto. I never expected to be here, but I am here. I get along very well with people and nobody hassles me. I just tell folks ..I don’t have any more than you do, so consider a helping hand a very temporary thing. Here’s a pack of diapers and a gallon of milk to tide you over for the weekend till you can get to the food bank on monday and get some help. That works. They know I give a damn and that’s enough. I’m not a threat.
There IS a code ..an unspoken code. If you don’t pick up on it instinctively, and abide by it then you can find yourself looking for somewhere else to live.
I caught a drunk guy outside last summer trying to steal our bicycles...told him to leave them alone. You can go away on your own accord, or I can call my buddy to help you leave..the choice is yours. He appreciated the choice, he left and he hasn’t been back. I didn’t have a buddy. I had a phone in my hand ready to dial 911.
The social rules in ‘’better’’ neighborhoods are much more difficult and give rise to isolation complete with six foot privacy fences and difficult to get along with people. So when a house gets broken into, nobody saw anything...for real.
Plus, you miss the barbecueing that'll come when some punk-ass raggie dictatorship or their terrorist middlemen detonate a medium-sized tactical fission device in the middle of the city.
We’ve lost our cities. Is there any American city that is safe? Where you can go and not be attacked by a roving band of subhumans?
At one time you could go to the city and be safe. My grandmother used to take a bus to the city, alone. No more. We are not free in our country. We go places in a car. We don’t walk. We lock our doors. Neighbors look with suspicion at other neighbors. Sounds like this is not the definition of a civilized society.
I remember the USA as it once was. It really was different.
LOL! And a suit of Medieval armor with a forest of sharpened spikes sticking out, porcupine style. "What is that vile-smelling, shambling clanky, spiny thing"? "Oh, that's just Ted. Somebody knocked him out once down here. Once.".
My Nephew caught a Celtics game and was with friends he had went to school with; was walking to his car when they jumped him. He almost didn't make it and was in hospital for 3 weeks, still has problems; can't ever play sports again, hearing problems, ect. My sister told me it happened in a tourist area, not a Blk Ghetto; but I've never been in Cambridge. I spent a week in Boston once, 30 years back, had a great time in Fanell Hall Area; didn't seem like a dangerous place; always wanted to go back again.
When the economic problems hit the fan someday down the road; it will only get worse. I plan to live out my days right here along the Yukon, quite secure once you get accustomed to the cold winter weather. It was minus 39 when I got up this morn.
I appreciate your story. I don’t live in the ghetto but when I was young my dad worked as a teacher and high school principal in the ghetto, Chicago south side, so I have some exposure to it. Can I ask you your opinion on the notoriously high murder rate in Chicago’s more dangerous neighborhoods? How does this fit in with the code you mentioned? In other words, is there a pattern to who is doing the violence and who they do it to?
Also would like your take on the knockout phenomenon, the perspective of the ghetto on it. Is it based on excursions outside the territory? Is it gang related in any way. Or is it just boredom? What is it about ghetto culture where they can have this code you speak of, and still produce the kind of people who would do this sort of thing?
Completely agree, re: personal safety.
There also needs to be some "fighting back"...maybe not literally from 73-year-old Grandmas (although anyone who tangled with my 73-year-old cousin would rue the day, lol)...but also via law enforcement and punishment. Awareness is crucial both for self-protection, and reporting suspicious evidence/incidents to police...
