First the city banned smoking in most public places. Now its moving to snuff out the use of smokeless electronic cigarettes as well.
The City Council announced Wednesday that it will hold a hearing Wednesday on a bill prohibiting the use of the battery-operated, tobacco-free vaporizers in restaurants, offices, parks, beaches and other places where smoking regular cigarettes is not allowed.

Theyre banning these because they look bad? Or are they just upset that the free market has found a way around theyre control?

It’s a little bit of both. It just proves for the 85 trillionth time in human history that human ingenuity beats central planning and statism every single time.
Leftists just don’t like to be mocked. It looks like smoking so they think that they are having their noses rubbed in the dirt. After all of that effort to denormalize and stigmatize smoking and smokers.
But as usual if you want the truth just follow the money. Anti-smoking groups like CTFK and ANR are funded by big pharmaceutical front groups who sell competing patches and gums and nicotine replacement therapy.
They are not doing this out of their philanthropic altruistic concern for their health of their fellow man. Pfizer Glaxo Johnson & Johnson through RWJF are just protecting their turf. It’s crony capitalist rent seeking.
The stupid liberal activist politicians just go along with it because it sounds good and they are stupid.
At the end of the day it is completely unenforceable. Here in New Jersey the big Pharma capital of the country they passed the same stupid law during the lame duck session before Christie took office.
I could sit in my office all day and vape and look like Don Draper. I could just use my electronic cigarette in restaurants and bars and not exhale the vapor.
But I am a law-abiding citizen. :-) I go outside in the freezing cold and rain in order to use my e-cig.*
* That’s my story and I am sticking to it. I’m sure the NSA is watching. I are innocent.
