NANTICOKE — A 97-year-old woman was killed in an apparently random home-invasion robbery on Thanksgiving night, according to state police.
The body of Gertrude Price, was found in her 23 E. Grand St. home by her family Friday morning, Trooper Martin Connors said. No arrests have been made.
“I know a lot times we say there is no cause for concern because it doesn’t look random,” Connors said. “This, unfortunately, is exactly the opposite of that. It looks as if this poor lady, 97 years old, lived her whole life and has to leave this world this way.”

Agree 100%. Killing defenseless people is the lowest of the low. I would not care if the perps were tortured to a slow and a painful death. Nothing is too bad for them.

What the hell do they mean when they say “random?” I don’t think they know.
Do they mean “They didn’t know each other”
Or “They chose a person without any specific reason?

Whether she was White or Black, I’d wager she was picked because she was old and helpless.

Agreed. It's the worst kind of non-random there is, choosing victims who are perceived as not being able to fight back and killing them because it's easy.
Anyone living alone should have a dog, and not one that they can carry around in a pocketbook.
Unfortunately old people sometimes get a bit squirrely. My mom was the victim of an aborted home invasion some years ago. She was in the kitchen chatting with a neighbor when one of our junior citizens tried to kick in the porch door. He managed to virtually destroy the door but did not gain entry all the while my mom was present a few feet away telling him to go away. I asked her why she did not just use the gun my dad left and just blast through the door. She said “I thought he may have been lost or had the wrong house”. I said mom you were lucky to be alive because any lowlife who would try to break in knowing someone was present was intent on serious crime. I moved her out of her life long home shortly after that.
My son was picked to beat up because at the time he was helpless. I hate people sometimes who do these sorts of things.

"Random" means that they can put less effort into it and there is no shame for not finding the perp because there is "nothing solid" to point them...similar to calling it "suicide" when someone has 3 bullet holes in his skull.
