Police admitted that the fatal shooting of a mental patient armed with scissors could have been prevented if the road sergeant equipped with a Taser had been at the scene in time.
Michael Eligon, 29, was walking toward police with the weapon and a ‘blank stare’ when he was shot three times by an officer in Toronto, an inquest heard.
A chilling video of the dramatic shooting shown to the inquest captured Mr Eligon’s last moments as he walked toward police who had their guns drawn and yelled ‘drop it’ on February 3 last year.
Under cross examination, Constable Scott Walker told the inquest that a Taser would have been a lest lethal option of subduing Mr Eligon but that the sergeant carrying one was not on the scene at the time, according to the Toronto Sun.
Mr Eligon had escaped from Toronto East General Hospital, where he was being treated for depression, earlier that day wearing just socks and his hospital gown.
The police hunt for Mr Eligon began after he stole two pairs of scissors from a convenience store, stabbing the attendant in the hand as he tried to stop the escapee....
Police finally found him wandering down Milverton Boulevard in East York and surrounded him with guns drawn....
Unperturbed, Mr Eligon continues towards police, who back away until one officer backs into a parked car.
As Mr Eligon advances to within four to six feet of the policemen, Constable Andrew Boyd screamed ‘shoot him’ and one officer obliges, firing three shots. Mr Eligon crumples to the ground....

You need to take it the next step - it was probably the medication that caused the incident. So if you want to blame someone, blame the doctors.
But the conclusion remains - if he’d been locked up, none of this would have happened.
Let’s be honest, what would any of us do if a mental patient approached one of us with a pair of scissors especially if they had just stabbed another person?

Although the idiots in Dallas who gunned down the guy in cold blood and then lied about it need to be in prison. It will be interesting to see what the liberal democrat DA does with that one in an election year.
We (When I was a Deputy) never carried PR24s-nightsticks).. We DID have to get Pepper-Sprayed before we could carry that though :p and ASPs were just coming out when I left (and came here).. so no idea what training there is/was for that.
From what I see here on FR, not sure I would want to be an Officer anymore :/

Not fair.. Libs have labeled ANYTHING as “depression” or “PTSD” in the last decade to be able to ‘medicate’ to ‘fix the problem’ (and make more sub-servant slaves) in the last 2+ decades :p

No taser and evidently no billy clubs available - hell, even a tire iron would have worked. Or a rock or other debris might have been available. But, as a few of the Cop apologists will assert, being crazy or confused is no reason not to obey a LEO’s demands and if you do not comply, you should expect to be shot dead.
Up above on a new thread is the story of another knife-wielding maniac, at a hospital in Longview, TX. In this incident a nurse was stabbed in the chest and died.
I wouldn’t fool around with scissor-wielding nutcases. Especially one who has already proven violent, having stabbed a victim. He keeps coming at you, blow his head off. Cops would have done the same thing here in my locality in Texas. Same thing 20 years ago. 50 years ago. 100 years ago. And they wouldn’t have given it a second thought. Nor would I.
Might seem too harsh to the sensibilities of the faggoty, circa-2013 America, who’ve gorged on decades of tv-shows with metrosexual police officers who calmly and comfortingly “talk down” wackos into dropping their weapons, via soliloquies about birds and trees and the beauty of life.
Of the 4 I did think the one did go too far in the very end. I would not have held the guy in charge accountable for that at all though.
Don’t feel sorry for me, you should go ride along with police and offer to tackle all the people that come at them or others to show everyone the right way to do it.
The guy had a leathal weapon and the police IMO don’t have to get hurt or killed removing it from them. They are not paid to come in second IMO.
King was on all kinds of drugs, had dropped his pants and told everyone to kiss his ass and so forth.
Lots happened before he got hurt.
Had the Highway patrol had just shot him before they LAPD took over they way they were going to do we would have been spared a lot of riots and racial BS in this country for 20 years.
That may be true, but it is irrelevant, unless you have more information than is in the article, which says he was being treated for depression.
