Argentina has threatened oil businesses operating off the Falkland Islands with fines, confiscations and jail sentences for their executives.
Argentina's embassy in London said new laws had been passed by the country's congress to clamp down on exploration it claims is in breach of UN decisions.
...The embassy said legislation "provides for prison sentences for the duration of up to 15 years; fines equivalent to the value of 1.5 million barrels of oil; the banning of individuals and companies from operating in Argentina; and the confiscation of equipment and any hydrocarbons that would have been illegally extracted".

Argentina, populated by some wonderful people; run by the remnant of the Third Reich. It is what Nazi germany could have been.
I wonder what Britain is going to do about this. I seriously doubt they could pull-off the levels of combat power seen in their last major engagement with the Argentinians.
The Argies have learned a thing or two from the Palestinians. After all, Palestine is now every hipster’s favoured cause-célèbre, and Israel (and by extension t3h j000000z), are once again the universal scapegoats, and least favourite illegitimate, ‘devil Country’ in the mould of pre-1994 South Africa.
The Argies know that in the long run, if they can keep trumpeting the mantra of ‘anti-KKKolonialiSSm’ long enough, and play on ancient anti-English hatred and resentment, they *WILL* eventually be accepted as being the aggrieved party.
Of course, the flimsy anti-colonialism “argument” is also predicated on equally flimsy supposition that Spanish and French colonisers are somehow more ‘legitimate’ than English ones.
Neither could the Argentines. Their military has all but eroded into nothing. It is largely using the same equipment as 1982, just less of it.
The British on the other hand have replaced pretty much everything used in 1982, with vastly more capable items. It also has two fleet carriers building.
So ? As you note, it has combat experienced troops. Apparently current British prime ministers are not adverse to getting involved in a conflict, and neither of those places were British.
