South Carolina Democrats hope a combination of enthusiasm, a desire to change the direction of the state and more careful vetting of people seeking the party's nominations will help them make gains next election.
Democrats acknowledge they need some wins. All nine statewide offices are run by Republicans, along with eight of the state's nine congressmen.
A Democrat hasn't won a statewide race since 2006, and the party hasn't taken a statewide or federal office back from the Republicans since 1998.
State Democratic Party Chairman Jamie Harrison says the party has talked to credible, competent challengers for every statewide race and both U.S. Senate races.
Democrats also say they'll run background checks and pick sides if they don't have confidence in someone seeking the party's

He’s black, isn’t he? If so, this is a rather transparent ploy to say that they don’t want no colored folk running on their ticket. But then they have always been about keepin’ the colored folk down.
Best if they are not under indictment or in jail for child pornography.

Actually, this is exactly right. SC Dems are terrified to run Black people statewide, despite the fact that these are half their base voters.
The Democrats promise to have an virulent anti-Christian, pro-sodomite, union-member, fascist feminist of transgendered sexuality running for every state and county wide office in South Carolina.

I am sure that SC does not have 9 U.S. representatives. I don’t think it is but five or six.
They can always draft Lindsey Graham and let him run on both party tickets, the way Earl Warren used to do in CA.
Alas, we do - “nine congressmen” was the actual term used. SC gained a seventh House seat in 2012. Plus two Senators makes nine.
gutless old party better bet the one they chose too, if it is another turn coat like Rubio you are going to see less people at the poles. We are sick and tired of RINOS like Romney and McCain. Send us a real Conservative to vote for. We can always sit home and let the dems keep destroying America for the One world,one money, and one religion crows.
Rinos are nothing but demorats as that side gets their votes on way to many laws. Send Sen Lamar Alexander home to play with his great grands, the man besides being a RINO is in his 70’s. I will be voting Joe Carr a TN state Legislator with a conservative voting record that can be check.
