Our founding fathers viewed tariffs as taxes on foreigners wanting to do business in our market. And they viewed it as maximizing freedom because the tariffs allowed them to avoid direct taxation of citizens.
So we could lower individual and corporate income taxes by the amount of money that the tariffs raised.

Exactly, therefore no one will be forced to pay the tariffs. The tariff, if not absorbed by the foreign producer to maintain market share, will a voluntary tax on people unwilling to buy American.
That sounds like greedy corrupt corporate speak, parroting what big gov tells big biz. The Communist Chinese super cargo ships are lined up bumper to bumper across the Pacific all the way to Red China to dump their Commie products.
America's store shelves are jammed with Communist Chinese products, in addition to products from corrupt countries like Mexico, etc..

Import tariffs are more in line with the founders than an income tax...
We should end the income tax and put a 10% tariff on all imported goods. If the government doesn’t have enough money they should budget for their damn income.
IMHO, our government is indirectly forcing the public to buy Chinese goods through the destruction of domestic industry and wealth.
