Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) "lit into" Midland University President and Nebraska Senate candidate Ben Sasse in a private sit-down meeting for associating himself with the Senate Conservatives Fund, according to a report in National Review on Monday.
Sasse, who is running in the Republican primary for Senate, sat down with McConnell on November 12 to try and extinguish some tension between the two over his association with SCF and also a YouTube video Sasse posted in which he said that called for "every Republican in Washington, starting with Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, to show some actual leadership." SCF has endorsed Sasse in the Republican primary for retiring Sen. Mike Johanns's (R-NE) Senate seat.
But instead of burying the hatchet, McConnell, according to National Review criticized Sasse both for his ties to SCF and the YouTube video. McConnell also asked Sasse about when he first started talking to SCF executive director Matt Hoskins.
Josh Holmes, a top political aide to McConnell told friends that the exchange was highly uncomfortable, even compared to other similar sit-downs McConnell had had.
"Voters in Nebraska want a senator who will stand up to the big spenders in both parties," Hoskins said in an email to TPM on Monday in response to the National Review story. "The fact that Mitch McConnell opposes Ben Sasse in the primary is further proof that Ben Sasse is the best candidate. He won't be a rubber stamp for the Washington establishment."
McConnell campaign spokesman Allison Moore refused to comment on the meeting.
"We don't discuss private meetings," Morre told TPM.

I doubt he's "lit in" to any moderate republican who has bucked his leadership!
It is so funny...all he needed to do was work this hard against Reid and he wouldn’t be in trouble.
Dang this Senators are dumb!
yep that is mitch ... working hard to not earn your vote and retire. Bye mitch.
But Reid and McConnell want the same thing: The triumph of quasi-socialist cronyism dominated by a small group of wealthy elites.
I think it says a lot about Sasse that he would go to McConnell in hopes of burying the hatchet. That pretty much eliminates him from my list of potential candidates.
It is hilarious that McConnell took the hatchet from him and used it to cut him off at the knees.
You can’t appease tyrants. A lesson Sasse learned too late.
“That pretty much eliminates him from my list of potential candidates.”
Well, I don’t think that’s a reason to no support him. He may have just thought it would be the right thing to do with someone he may be working with. He probably didn’t know how much of a prick McConnell has become.
If only POS RINO scum would go after their liberal vermin counterparts as they do against conservatives from their own party. Turtle-faced, mumbling POS...
Ben Sasse had better take the right side.
McConnell has always been a prick. The fact that Sasse was prepared to kiss his ring makes Sasse a candidate who cannot be trusted to hold on to conservative values.
Ditch Mitch.
When is the last time he “lit into” a democrat or some other commie?
A visit with S! couldn't hurt either.
I’m not so sure about Rand and Rubio but you make a good point.
.
McCommie has got to go.
How stupid is it to attack Tea party Candidates when you should be making friends with them?
Mitch McConnell is a fool. he is too stupid to read the handwriting on the wall.
Any real leader would be getting close to the tea party and attacking the Democrats with a unified party, instead Mitch is splitting the party and Republicans will be the worse for it.
Hopefully he will be gone because if he isn’t and the Republicans in the Senate re-elect this fool as Minority we will have no choice but to leave the party,
Another future Senator who’s going to pi$$ McConnell off. We should root for this guy.
Ongoing Civil War out in the open ...
You’re pretty easily pi$$ed off.
