Last week I wrote about our large-scale plan to use new technology were building to inject sophisticated computation and knowledge into everything. Today Im pleased to announce a step in that direction: working with the Raspberry Pi Foundation, effective immediately theres a pilot release of the Wolfram Languageas well as Mathematicathat will soon be bundled as part of the standard system software for every Raspberry Pi computer.

Stephan Wolfram the individual is, how shall I say this tactfully... an asshole. That said, the man is brilliant, and a visionary in many ways, but has a big head. A new kind of science, really? He effectively claimed dominion over a large swath of mathematics, and mathematical philosophy without proper prior references cited. In the scientific literature area, that’s a deal killer. Hope he gets better.
That was back when tens of millions of people still read the weekly news magazines, so it was a big deal.
He was at the University of Illinois back then, and he had just begun to work out his Mathematica software program.
But is his programming language really worthy of his hype?
The programming language the deserves fanfare is Walter Bright’s ‘D’ programming language.
Wow! But this thing has almost no horsepower for doing anything of use.
A nice toy, but I’ve got a 30 year old PC with more capability in the garage...
